General Electric Travelling Wind Farm Service Technician - Mechanical in Home/Remote/Alternate, Australia

Job Description Summary

Are you an Australian based Mechanical Wind Technician or a Qualified Mechanical Trade person aspiring to join the wind industry? Are you looking to join a growing team for a new challenge in 2021? If so, we want to hear from you. We're looking for motivated individuals to join us as Travelling Wind Farm Service Technicians – Mechanical.

Based out of one of our several Australian wind farm sites and being regularly dispatched country wide to support ongoing maintenance activities, major component exchanges, and new farm stand-up activities. This role will see you interface regularly with multiple GE Onshore wind farms, Service Management, our many Clients and internal technical teams.

Location is flexible around Australia; East Coast is preferred.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Interpret the requirements of GE manuals, specifications, bulletins and complete assigned tasks in accordance with GE work instructions.

  • Perform and ensure the proper maintenance and fault finding of assets.

  • Supervise major component exchange and crane operations.

  • Maintain reports using GE’s various software management tools and databases.

  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with the above documents and to the organization’s SWMS, LOTO, associated EHS & QA/QC policies/procedures.

  • Drive a positive reporting culture by identifying errors, violations, incidents or problems immediately using GE systems.

  • Liaise and Collaborate with GE Engineering Support team to ensure technical issues are resolved.

  • Uphold and maintain Quality Control, by making conformance or non-conformance decisions upon completion of tasks and inspections.

  • Form part of an on-call roster to work weekends and nights if required or as directed by management.

  • Submit enquiries to Engineering to ensure technical issues are resolved.

  • Work closely with and answer questions from Management, Engineering, Sourcing and Project Teams as required.

  • Champion Safety by being familiar with and following all EHS policies, and procedures applicable to the job and cooperate with GE investigations and EHS audits.

  • SCADA system experience, remote operation and fault finding of complex power generation equipment.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • As a minimum, hold a current: Mechanical Trade Certificate, Construction Industry White Card and Current First Aid/CPR.

  • Demonstrate previous experience in the Onshore Wind sector or similar heavy industry (Five years Minimum).

  • Experience working in remote locations and autonomously.

  • Competent in fault finding mechanical and hydraulic equipment.

  • Trained to an intermediate level in computer skills.

  • Must have the ability to climb wind turbines and complete physically demanding tasks at heights.

  • Must be willing to travel >50% of the year.

Highly Desirable:

  • HRWL including Dogging, Rigging (Advanced), Forklift, EWP.

  • CSE

  • GWO Advanced
