General Electric Software Engineering Specialist in Hoffman Estates, Illinois

Role Summary:

Responsible for designing and writing code in Java to support automated testing of product components and features. Works independently and contributes to the immediate team and to other teams across business. Contributes to automation and quality engineering discussions.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Own small to medium-sized software development tasks in Java in support of automation

  • Collaborate with quality assurance engineers, automation developers and software developers to implement solutions that are aligned with and extend the direction of the automation strategy

  • Apply principles of SDLC and methodologies like Lean/Agile/XP, CI, Software and Product Security, Scalability, Documentation Practices, refactoring and Testing Techniques

  • Build features that enable the automation of message generation (HL7, Wed Services) and the automated inspection of received data

  • Work on core data structures and algorithms and implement them using Java

  • Develop and execute maintainable automation tests for acceptance, functional, and regression test cases Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)

  • A minimum of 0-2 years of java coding experience

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. GE may agree to sponsor an individual for an employment visa now or in the future if there is a shortage of individuals with particular skills.

  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in Hoffman Estates IL Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience developing applications in Java

  • Experience in Behavior Driven Development or Test Driven Development

  • Experience with issue-tracking and agile project management systems such as Confluence, Rally, etc.

  • Experience working in Windows environments.

  • Experience working with virtual machines (VMs) as part of a test/integration infrastructure Business Acumen:

  • Has the ability to break down problems and estimate time for development tasks

  • Has the ability to make basic technology choices based on experience Leadership:

  • Ability to takes ownership of small and medium sized tasks
