As an intern you will be working with researchers in developing innovative technologies and executing research projects. The work includes all aspects of the Operations Optimization process, from system and flow analysis, through data collection and analysis, selecting optimization approaches and algorithms, building the software solutions that implement the algorithms and interact with users and data sources, to deploying them for users, and quantifying their benefits. You will be working with other researchers from collaborating institutions and from different labs in GE Research, understanding needs, sharing common solutions, and implementing solutions.

In this role you will

  • Perform research work on improving operational efficiency of manufacturing, maintenance and services across GE’s businesses, via solving problems such as scheduling, forecasting, and discovering opportunities for improvement.

  • Use deep understanding of the complex processes and value chains involved in manufacturing and maintaining critical equipment (such as jet engines), leading to the creation of advanced prescriptive analytics.

  • Develop novel algorithms for data-driven real-time scheduling of work, parts and materials.

  • Implement algorithmic and analytic software and build them into integrated solutions, mostly in Python and Java environments.

  • Deploy those solutions for users responsible for real-life processes, integrating them into the relevant data sources and enabling users to experience them, and evaluate the solutions’ performance.

  • Cooperate with other researchers on the above activities.


  • MSc or PhD student in Computer Science, Data Science, Applied Math or Industrial Engineering

  • Good knowledge of data-driven analytics and optimization algorithms

  • Experience in Python and or Java development

  • Good programming skills

  • Experience in implementing high performance algorithms in customer driven solutions

  • Independent and innovative with the ability to understand requirements and to explore, evaluate, and select relevant technologies and implementations

  • Good communication skills

  • Fluent in English
