Job Description Summary

The site test Engineer is in charge of performing advanced measurements on hydro power plants. This includes testing of hydraulic, mechanical or electrical components. The selected candidate will be required to travel to France for first few months for training purposes.

Essential Responsibilities:

As a team member, the site test engineer will:

  • Establish the test procedure in cooperation with the project office, Hydraulic Centre of Excellence (COE), experts and the site installation department.

  • Define the appropriate methods and measurement techniques; establish the list of adequate equipment and devices; maintain the instrumentation and ensure their proper calibration.

  • Participate in the preparation, organization, and execution of the test campaign at site.

  • Conduct or supervise the test. This task requires periodic travels abroad, essentially in North America but can be worldwide.

  • Participate in data analysis, test results validation, certifying their quality and accuracy and write or validate the test reports.

  • Ensure the feedback of experience from site and guarantee the proper transmission of feedback inside the team and to other departments (Hydraulic COE, Engineering, Tendering).

  • Built and assist the test team globally, ensure its effectiveness by developing its skills and versatility.

  • Complete the database of experimental results; Share feedback of experience inside team and with Hydraulic COE and Engineering.

  • Perform continuous technology watch to improve the dedicated instruments, computer tools and methods related to measurements. Propose new techniques of measurements in order to increase efficiency and test reliability.

  • Ensure collaboration with the commissioning team, providing technical assistance to the site installation department and sharing best practices.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from engineering school or equivalent in either mechanical, fluid mechanics or instrumentation disciplines.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with data acquisition systems, sensors, strain gauges, ideally on hydro powerplants.

  • Ability and willingness to travel in the US and occasionally abroad (average 20-30% in a given year / first few months will mostly be spent in France for training).

  • Must be willing to comply with pre-employment screening, including but not limited, reference verification and background check.

  • Must have unrestricted US work authorization

Desired Characteristics:

  • Specialization in hydraulic and/or physical measurements.

  • Deep knowledge in physical measurements.

  • Good knowledge in fluid mechanics and in mechanical analysis, especially for rotating parts.

  • Knowledge on dimensioning of the main components of a power plant (turbine, generator and hydro-mechanicals) is a clear asset.

  • Knowledge of computer data collection and data processing.

  • Experience in site test or in commissioning of power plants is mandatory.

  • Strong experience in strain gauges installation and post processing.

  • Fluent in English. Other languages are much appreciated (French, Spanish).

  • Signal analysis (FFT, Waterfall, temporal).

  • Programming skills (Python).

  • Good relationship, team working spirit.

  • Capacity to work with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Reactive, open mindset, innovative, resourceful.

  • Autonomy, sense of analysis and problem solving.

  • Be concise and be persuasive when presenting tests results.

  • Be aware of EHS rules.

  • Be customer focused.

The salary range for this position is $95,500 - $141,000 USD/year. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location.
