General Electric Thermal Dynamics Engineer in Greenville, South Carolina

Job Description Summary

This individual will be responsible in performing component and system level heat transfer and flow analysis and for the cooling and sealing design across our heavy duty gas turbine platforms; including hot gas path components and rotating and static structures hardware. This includes designing the cooling circuits to ensure all pertinent temperature and flow targets are met. The individual will also work closely with other cross functional teams to ensure successful program execution. The individual will be involved in the full life cycle of the product, including new design, testing and field issue resolution.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Carry out thermal and flow analysis and advanced cooling design for heavy duty gas turbine stationary and rotating components (airfoils and structures) under direct guidance of a technical leader

  • Perform thermal and flow analysis using GE’s suite of in-house tools, as well as CFD and Ansys

  • Ensure designs and methods meet established GE design practices and design templates.

  • Support gas turbine design from conceptual design through to detailed design.

  • Support component and gas turbine testing from test planning to monitoring, post validation test analysis, and part qualification activities.

  • Support installed fleet by addressing product cost out and root cause analysis, when needed.

  • Work closely with performance, aerodynamic, mechanical and other cross functional teams to ensure successful program execution

  • Document, report and review results with team members, component owners, customers and leadership.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in relevant (Mechanical, Aerospace or comparable) Engineering discipline

  • 0 to 2 years industry experience

Desired Characteristics

  • At least 1 year of engineering design experience in gas turbine engines

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Use of Thermal analysis software, Ansys, CFD, and/or flow network software.

  • Demonstrated understanding of heat transfer design methods, gas turbine systems and aerodynamics.

  • Advanced degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.

  • Understanding of internal GE Power business processes, organizational roles and responsibilities

  • Demonstrated ability to understand customer requirements and draft plans to meet them.

  • Demonstrated Design for Six Sigma Quality Focus and probabilistic approach to problem solving.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems

  • Green Belt or Black Belt certification (GE employees only)

  • • Positive "can do" attitude.
