The Senior Design Engineer, Wind Blades will lead and execute engineering design, analysis and product support work on composite wind turbine blades.
In this role, you will utilize your experience and expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and have the ability to effect short-term and long-term Megawatt Constrained Segment goals. The design responsibility reaches from the conceptual design stage through prototyping to the serial implementation and support of the installed fleet.
As the Senior Design Engineer, Wind Blades, you will:
Execute design and analysis of composite structures for wind turbine blades
Lead key strategic initiatives, including wind blade NPI, NTI and Cost Out programs
Provide mentoring to team members and provide solutions to complicated problems
Participate actively in wind blade design practice and standards review / improvement
Develop and implement new design methodologies and tools
Work closely with system engineering, aerodynamics engineering and LM Wind Power on optimization of next generation wind turbine blade platform
Work cross-functionally with quality teams, advanced manufacturing engineers, sourcing and field support to decrease Cost of Quality and improve first time yield
Work with certification and testing institutes, support customer and due diligence activities
Drive testing / validation of composite sub-articles and full-scale blades
Support investigation of blade fleet issues, including root cause analysis and corrective / preventative actions
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Structural or Material Engineering from an accredited university or college
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a mechanical design engineering position
Master's Degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering from an accredited university or college
Strong background in mechanical design engineering with mechanical sense and fundamental base
Knowledge of FMEA process with ability to identify key program risks and develop mitigation plan
Familiarity with GD&T, 2D Drawings and Product Lifecycle Management
Experience with ANSYS Workbench finite element modeling techniques
Experience with composite material testing (coupon / sub-article)
Proficient in ANSYS APDL finite element modeling techniques
Proficient with CATIA Composite Grid Design and MATLAB
Experience with Flex5 / Adams turbine load simulation
Familiarity with Root Cause Analysis (8D process)
Self-driven with the ability to solve challenging mechanical engineering problems
Ability to work with global team members across cultural boundaries
Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
