General Electric Senior Customer Controls Resolution Engineer in Greenville, South Carolina

Job Description Summary

The Onshore Wind controls engineering organization is seeking a Senior Engineer with demonstrated wind turbine expertise in the field of controls systems. This is a product-development focused engineering role where the scope includes design, implementation, RCA ownership, field validation, and optimization of the turbine operational strategies that meet customer needs.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • As the Customer Controls Resolution Engineer, you will:

  • Capture requirements directly from end customers and rank by priority

  • Create and drive change requests for customer requirements

  • Create rapid response controls builds between planned releases for field testing

  • Proactively coordinate & secure field test turbines for customer builds as well as GE test campaigns

  • Execute field testing for customer builds as well as GE test campaigns, record results in GE the system of record, drive resolution to failures, and drive countermeasures to prevent future failures

  • Perform detailed troubleshooting on complex customer issues and make proposals for controls features to improve fleet operations

  • Support customer meetings providing a summary of requirements, builds, patch releases, and new releases

  • Assume ownership of turbine controls RCA through the 8D cycle from team formation to closeout

  • Cooperate with Customer, Segment Fleet Support, FRO, and Validation teams to analyze complex controls issues and develop corrective actions

  • Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation, and presentation of technical data to internal and external GE customers using reports, records, and letters


  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Science from an accredited college or university

  • Minimum of 6 years of wind turbine engineering work or research experience

  • Travel 10% for field troubleshooting & validation

Desired Characteristics:

  • Proficiency in MATLAB / Simulink or similar program

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Problem analysis and resolution skills

  • Experience with wind turbine control systems

  • Proficiency in at least one aero-elastic wind turbine simulation tool such as Bladed, Fast, or Flex

  • Advanced degree with a focus on controls, wind energy, or system dynamics

  • Good understanding of classical (transfer functions, frequency domain design, etc) and basic knowledge in modern (state-space, optimal control, etc) control theory

  • Experience with real-time control systems such as the MarkVIe

  • Knowledge of at least one programming language such as C or Delphi

  • Experience replicating field issues in simulation and driving resolution

  • Experience analyzing large data sets with both high-speed data collection tools and data warehouse to detect trends needed to determine root cause

  • Ability to interface effectively with all levels of the organization and external customers
