General Electric Lead NDE Materials Engineer in Greenville, South Carolina

Role Summary:The Lead NDE Materials Engineer position focuses on the development, implementation, and qualification of non-destructive testing methods / procedures for the GE Gas Power business as well as other GE businesses as needed.

Essential Responsibilities:

As the Lead NDE Materials Engineer you will:

  • Working closely with NDE engineers in the group on NDE processes and procedures

  • Interfacing with Design Engineering to specify the correct NDE techniques and limits to meet the needs of the components

  • Qualification of NDT techniques at suppliers and in-house as needed

  • Disposition of discrepant material

  • Maintain an active role in developing and defining the state of the art NDE test methods to apply them to new turbine designs in the future

In addition to the above essential functions, the candidate should possess the credentials and skills to perform the role of a Materials Applications Engineer (MAE). As a MAE, the person will have to handle material related issues. Some day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Materials selection, including material substitutions

  • Process development/ improvement

  • Deviation requests

  • Drawing sign-offs

  • Failure analysis


  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Materials or Non Destructive Testing

  • Minimum 5 years experience in NDE or engineering field

Desired Characteristics:

  • Centrally certified (ASNT or equivalent) Level III in at least one NDT Method

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Demonstrated ability to document, plan, market and manage programs that further the knowledge, understanding and capability of the business

  • Problem analysis and resolution skills
