General Electric Lead Mechanical Engineer – Wind Services Productivity Engineering in Greenville, South Carolina
Job Description Summary
The Onshore Wind Services Productivity Engineering team uses technical expertise to drive reduced maintenance cost and improved reliability for all Onshore Wind turbines that are under GE service contract. The team has direct impact on the experience of customers regarding the effectiveness of service from GE, and the scope covers the entire turbine system for all turbine platforms in all global regions. This role provides key mechanical engineering expertise on the team, including expertise related to practical application of lubrication.
Roles and Responsibilities
As Lead Mechanical Engineer on the Services Productivity Engineering team, you will:
Execute assigned engineering projects with minimal oversight from concept through implementation to drive productivity (cost out) of planned and unplanned maintenance on Onshore Wind turbines
Evaluate technical risk for productivity projects and manage mitigation actions (including testing or monitoring) to validate product quality is maintained or improved
Define and meet schedule, cost, and technical requirements for assigned projects.
Clearly communicate project status, issues, risks, benefits, and recommendations to leadership & business stakeholders.
Present technical reviews and create technical documentation.
Collaborate and coordinate supporting project activities with stakeholders across the global organization including new unit segments, product line, regional services, Digital, sourcing, etc
Contribute to lean standardization of engineering methods used to deliver Variable Cost Productivity projects
Contribute to evaluation of technical viability, definition of project scope, and quantification of benefit for proposed ideas for serviceability, reliability, or productivity
Assist in generating viable productivity ideas through technical evaluation of current planned and unplanned maintenance
Provide expertise in executing projects related to oil lubrication of gear & bearing systems, grease lubrication of large bearings, and auto lubrication systems
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent from an accredited college or university
Minimum of 3 years of engineering experience
Prior experience with technology, design, maintenance, or operation of complex industrial, automotive, aviation, or power generation equipment.
Practical, hands-on experience with relevant equipment is a plus.
Prior experience with lubrication systems or practical application of oil or grease lubrication
Motivated and innovative in owning and guiding projects to meet technical and business objectives, while requiring minimal oversight
Clear thinking and effective conclusions with ability to break-down complex problems, identify root cause of issues, and identify best course of action in solving technical problems
Effective team player with strong interpersonal skills and ability to influence stakeholders across global organization to drive change
Basic project management skills with effective risk management
Ability to occasionally travel to a wind farm and climb turbines to support investigation, development, testing, etc for assigned projects
Experience in applying Lean or Six Sigma quality tools
Advanced degree in Engineering or equivalent
