Job Description Summary
The Coatings Manufacturing Engineer - Combustion is responsible for meeting business goals, driving programs, and implementing processes for the coating cell. In this role, you will utilize your experience and expertise to solve problems, develop and execute tactical & strategic objectives, and drive results that impact short-term and some long-term business goals. This role will have a focus on plasma spray and automation technologies in the coatings manufacturing cell
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
Engineer creative solutions to business challenges with an emphasis on plasma spray, automation, and continuous improvement
Tactical leader with engagement with hourly associates
Project management with various projects and tasks
Partnering with Senior Coatings engineer on TBC related items
Develop and maintain manufacturing methods and create process routings
Design and build / procure necessary tooling and finishing within budgets
Support equipment upgrades from purchase through installation
Conduct cost/benefit analysis for changes to processes and/or equipment
Support EHS projects in cell and ensure processes contribute to a safe work environment
Drive Coatings Process Improvements / Cycle Reduction initiatives and drive productivity improvements via process changes or improvements
Identify and reduce sources of labor efficiency variations
Identify and reduce product quality issues caused by process variation
Support the quality function through integration of ISO/QC documentation and Manufacturing methods Instructions
Lead high impact process and quality improvement projects yielding significant reduction in defects and increased productivity in the Cell
Attend weekly cross-functional quality sessions and track/drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for the Cell
Lead New Technology Initiatives (NTI) and share best practices with other locations
Utilize lean-manufacturing principles and participate in action workouts to improve process capability, reduce overall costs and increase capacity
Develop a basic understanding of robotic programing
Learn to use different technologies such as White Light/Blue light/Flash Thermography and IR equipment
Develop an understanding of vacuum furnaces to be able to help trouble shoot issues
Work closely with the maintenance team to get machines back up and running production
Support a team of experienced operators within the Coating department. You will work with this team to improve cycle time and reduce cost
Work closely with product Design Engineers to help make our product better through improving the manufacturing process
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering / material science from an accredited university (or a high school diploma/GED and at least 4 years of manufacturing or operations experience)
At least 2 years of relevant coatings experience
Desired Characteristics
Focus in material science / thermal spray
Previous knowledge of robotics and/or automation
Ability to read engineering drawings and specifications
Strong mechanical design ability
Prior experience to and knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles
High attention to detail and accuracy
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
Effective at managing multiple priorities under deadlines
Ability to plan communicate and execute
