Job Description Summary
GE is a leader in the aerospace industry in developing computing platforms for embedded aviation applications. The aerospace computing applications engineer position is a senior level position involving advanced processing techniques, processor selection and evaluation, operating systems, computer architectures, working with customers to understand their technology and product needs, architecting new systems, defining and developing new computing and security technology and products, and working with product development teams to implement them.
Roles and Responsibilities
This is a technical development and leadership role.
Work with both civil and military aerospace industries to generate certified computing architectures.
Investigate and implement processing architectures, including interfaces, operating systems, Multi-Core determinism, and embedded processors for high performance processing.
Develop and implement security such as IEEE 802.1X, MACsec, IPsec, Authentication, Digital Signatures, key management, and trusted boot.
Analyze customer applications and design product architectures to fulfill user specifications and requirements
Provide key contributions to the definition of product roadmaps and the development of new technologies (or new applications of existing technologies)
Develop technical proposals which define how GE’s products deliver strong value to the customer
Perform model-based systems design and simulation to evaluate alternate architectures and to automate validation and verification activities to reduce cost of change
Provide leadership and coordination of proposal activities with both internal and external stakeholders
Form and cultivate industry relationships through participation in standard setting committees, conferences, and technical symposiums
Influence key technical decision makers in ways that are favorable to GE's product and services strategy
Interpret customer Statement of Work and Requirements Specifications and translate to internal product requirements and architectures
Propose, lead, and participate in Internal Research and Development (IRAD) programs
Perform engineering trade studies
Assist Sales, Marketing, and Business Leaders in new pursuits
Drive and support engineering reuse within the product line
Support the startup of new projects to insure they are well planned in accordance with the product roadmap, and the overall product line strategy
Drive the development of intellectual property (patents and trademarks) to support the product line Escalate issues that need additional engineering or business leadership assistance in a timely manner
Define and streamline systems engineering processes to cost effectively execute advanced technology programs with heavy emphasis on application of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) using a variety of techniques, methods, and tools
Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, aeronautics or related technical or scientific field of study from an accredited university or college
Minimum 10 years' experience in a Systems Engineering capacity, working in any of the following disciplines: Hardware and Software System Integration, Hardware processing, Software Operating System, Software Application Architecture, and similar disciplines.
Ability and willingness to travel approximately 10% of the time
Ability to work in Grand Rapids, MI or Clearwater, FL

Solid experience in product development and systems engineering activities
Proven ability to define product solutions which meet customer needs and provide a strong user experience
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Very high business acumen; able to tactfully navigate industry meetings in a way that successfully influences GE outcomes
Highly motivated, clear thinker; ability to operate at both a systems and product level to connect technical decisions to business outcomes
Experience developing system architectures using Model Based Development techniques and tools
Analytical people person with strong influencing skills; values relationships and able to build rapport
Strong understanding of internal business operations; ability to navigate our process efficiently
Experience with avionics design guidance documents such as RTCA DO-297 and SAE ARP4754 Experience with aerospace certification guidance documents such as SAE ARP4761
Experience with embedded systems
Experience in avionics and aircraft systems
Experience with leading and mentoring a group
Experience with engineering processes including requirements definition, requirements allocation, requirements validation, requirements verification, integration, embedded software, electronic systems, FAA/EASA/NAA certification, and system safety.
Able to communicate directly with senior leadership inside and outside the company.
Experience in vehicle and avionics systems level design, integration, and verification
Ability to multi-task and prioritize work in a dynamic environment
Experience in Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) for the design and verification of avionics-based systems
