General Electric Senior Embedded SW Development Engineer in Grand Rapids, Michigan

Role Summary:The Senior Software Engineer will be a member of the Bombardier Integrated Product Team responsible for the design, development, integration and test of embedded software applications that reside on the Aircraft Health Management System, a key component of the GE Aviation Digital organization’s product strategy. This role will be responsible for supporting & guidance the team across the SW Development Lifecycle, including alignment with DO-178B / C regulations.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop, document, & communicate the product software implementation strategy & approach

  • Support / oversee Software Implementation activities to ensure alignment with defined product strategy & architecture, through close coordination and engagement with SW Architects and Systems focals

  • Develop embedded software for Vehicle Health Services functional applications

  • Actively improve & drive the SW development processes and software applications

  • Provide technical leadership to personnel supporting the assigned project

  • Produce & maintain well designed code, with innovative ideas

  • Utilize proficiency in C / C+

    • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements
  • Leverage & employ Root Cause Analysis Techniques to support & drive resolution of complex & challenging issues

  • Respond to internal and external customer support requests

  • Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews

  • Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments

  • Participate on teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issues

  • Provide mentoring, guidance, and direction to junior team members

  • Leverage, guide, & support product & artifact development in alignment with DO-178B / C

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college in the field of Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field from an accredited university or college

  • A minimum of 8 years software development lifecycle experience

Desired Characteristics:

  • Enthusiasm & passion for software development

  • Proficiency in C / C++ (embedded SW development)

  • Experience with RTOS such as Linux

  • Python familiarity & expertise

  • GCC Compilers familiarity & expertise

  • GDB debugger familiarity & expertise

  • Virtual Machine and code management familiarity (GIT / SVN / etc.)

  • Strong team working skills

  • Experience of planning software development work

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience leading software teams

  • Experience with regulated software development standards

  • Strong technical aptitude

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Working knowledge & experience with DO-178B / C certification objectives
