General Electric Lead Engineer - Test Systems in Grand Rapids, Michigan

Job Description Summary

The Lead Test Systems Development Engineer will be responsible for the complete development of engineering, qualification and manufacturing test systems including planning, requirements and architecture, hardware design, software design, build, integration and release. The Lead Engineer demonstrates leadership in understanding project schedule, scope and budget objectives and leading a small team to meet those objectives. In this role you will communicate priorities, technical status and issues to both internal and external customers. You will utilize your experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and have the ability to effect short-term and some long-term business goals.

Qualifications/Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science OR a High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of Information Technology (IT), Engineering, Scientific, or other Technical experience

• Minimum of 3 years of experience with software and hardware integration of complex electronics or similar test equipment development experience

Essential Responsibilities:

· Develop project plans, manage and execute to the plan, and provide periodic status/metrics.

· Manage own time and assigned resources to meet schedule, cost, and quality objectives.

· Specify and design new production test equipment by understanding new products in Development.

· Create test design documentation including test specifications, drawings, procedures, software, verification procedures and reports.

· Generate test software in National Instruments TestStand/LabVIEW/LabWindows CVI.

· Coordinate with sub-contractors to implement production testing and training of local support personnel.

· Work closely with the R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, and Engineering teams.

· Provide technical support to manufacturing including hands-on debug of test systems.

· Provide cost estimates.

· Contribute to the company’s production engineering objectives regarding new product introduction, process improvement and lean manufacturing.

• Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments

• Participate on teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issues

• Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews

Knowledge/Skills:

• Strong familiarity with processor based electronics hardware, especially with respect to test and diagnostics

• Strong familiarity with Test Stand, LabWindows/CVI, and/or Lab View

• Experience developing test solutions for manufacturing test (e.g. Acceptance Test and Functional Board Test)

• Experience in developing tests for automatic execution

• Experience in the complete test development life cycle of products

• Experience developing complex electronics schematics, mechanical assembly drawings and part lists

• Experience working with Sub-Contract manufacturers

• Understanding of production processes

• PCB design and assembly for test fixtures experience

• Knowledge / experience of cellular manufacture, Lean Manufacturing, kaizen, and 5S
