General Electric Engineer - Mechanical Component in Grand Rapids, Michigan

Job Description Summary

The Mechanical Engineer is a pivotal role to provide creative design solutions that meet customer requirements and internal business goals. The incumbent would execute mechanical design, analysis, verification, and documentation activities to develop leading-edge aerospace avionics products.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

o Perform mechanical design, interconnect evaluations, mechanical component selection, and tolerance stack-up analysis activities for avionics products.

o Create mechanical models, drawings, and bills of material.

o Perform thermal, stress, and vibration analyses and tests to ensure product compliance to environmental and operational requirements, and provide conclusive technical reports.

o Perform design and work-product reviews.

o Participate in Design for Manufacturing (DFM), maintainability, and testability concepts.

o Provide timely technical support to the production factory for root cause investigations, and improvement to product and processes/tooling.

o Identify and implement creative improvements to department processes and tools.

Required Qualifications

o Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university.

Desired Characteristics

o 1-3 years' of professional experience in mechanical engineering.

o Attention to detail.

o Experience in packaging design for electronics assemblies.

o Working knowledge and application experience in Dimensioning and Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5.

o Proficiency in model and drawing creation using Siemens NX.

o Experience using Product Lifecycle Management systems (PTC Windchill).

o Proficiency in vibration and thermal analysis using FEA tools.

o Familiarity with aerospace standards, materials, and processes.

o Strong oral and written communication skills.

o Demonstrated structured problem solving skills.

o Accountability and ownership.

o Continuous improvement mindset.
