General Electric Embedded Software Development - Advanced Lead Engineer in Grand Rapids, Michigan

Job Description Summary

The Platform and Test Software Advanced Lead Engineer demonstrates accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives. In this role you will lead by administering project management principles to plan, develop, integrate, and execute assigned projects utilizing local and virtual teams responsible for development, validation, and verification activities to meet customer requirements for product quality, cost and maintain alignment with the product road map strategy.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Being accountable and responsible for day-to-day execution of the work assigned by the appointed Development Lead including scope, schedule, cost, technical and quality, cross functional coordination within the team and other product areas.

  • Development of the Platform Software product meeting the Multi-Generational Technology Plan (MGTP) / Multi-Generational Product (Development) Plan (MGPP) as directed by the assigned Development Lead and advised by assigned Platform Software Architect, and interaction with third-party suppliers.

  • Work with the assigned Platform Software Development Lead and functionally report to the Common Platforms Subsection Manager as part of the Platform & Test Software Section.

  • Define / Refine software architecture and software design.

  • Define / Refine interface requirements.

  • Define / Refine software requirements.

  • Define / Refine software implementation.

  • Lead and execute software integration activities.

  • Report earned value using common ABMs.

  • Drive and support engineering reuse strategies and processes within Platform and Test Software.

  • Responsible for planning the processes, procedures and design practices that are tailored from governing organizational documents.

  • Responsible to collaborate across projects to identify and resolve project issues within development teams, escalating when required and ensure overall project deliverable(s) are met.

  • Acts as the Control Accountant Manager for project elements delegated by the Engineering Project Manager.

  • Facilitate schedule creation, supports the team with schedule best practices, coordinates monthly forecast updates, process amendments, and supports rolling wave planning.

  • Work with our GE Global Sites to grow development, verification, and validation capabilities for our portfolio applications which can be hosted on Compute and Networking platforms.

  • Ensuring customer requirements / CTQs are gathered and are accurately reflected in the Integrated MGPP / MGTP and are aligned with our strategy.

  • Work with the Application Engineers for R&D opportunities to make our products flexible, scalable and reduce our cost of change.

  • Inspire the development/enhancement of Engineering Processes, Tools & Technology to maximize productivity during the development of platform software.

  • Participate in technical and program reviews within the organization as required.

  • Lead technical reviews and participate as a reviewer including acting as member of the Customer.

  • Engage with bidding and proposal activities; ensuring consistent and optimized solutions are considered for each pursuit.

  • Work closely with Grand Rapids MI, Clearwater FL, and GEIQ Mexico teams to drive a collaborative culture.

  • Develop action plans to anticipate and respond to problems (tools, processes) to control costs.

  • Support Industry Working Groups including technical and competitive position assessments.

  • Collaborate with other Technical Managers to identify and enact process improvement opportunities.

  • Assist project leadership in the timely resolution of engineering design, validation, and verification issues.

  • Escalate issues requiring engineering or business leadership assistance in a timely manner.

  • Mentor and train high potential engineers to grow technical capability.

  • Assist leadership to help make strategic decisions on individual projects and products.

  • Engage with EPM(s) leading projects supporting project planning, conducting reviews, metrics development / tracking, development processes, and risk / opportunity management.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science or equivalent related experience from an accredited University or College.

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in an engineering leadership position leading team.

  • Minimum of 4-6 years of software engineering experience with a high degree of focus on real-time embedded systems.
