The Application Engineer - Staff Engineer who is Customer Focused will lead new business pursuits, develop common system architectures, lead R&D activities, and demonstrate accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives. In this role, you will contribute to the overall business strategy and provide technical oversight in the US Military HUMS and US Military IVHM product domains.

This is a highly visible leadership opportunity working some of the best and brightest in the industry. MUST be comfortable engaging with Global teams and US military clients daily. You will have the flexibility to work Hybrid/Remote 1-2 days a week unless projects/meetings require an in-office presence in Grand Rapids, MI.

In addition, you will:

  • Provide expertise to cross-project teams, including detailed understanding of the design and application of aerospace hardware, systems, and software to the US Military HUMS and US Military IVHM product areas.

  • Identify and communicate opportunities for strategic re-use inside and outside the product area to reduce cost and risk.

  • Provide inputs to the Multi-Generational Technology Plan and own the technology roadmap for the rotary wing US Military HUMS and US Military IVHM Product Families. Identify, manage, and develop key technologies and Intellectual Property (IP) required to achieve business objectives, providing input to research funding plans.

  • Support business pursuits, manage technical proposal development and estimation, and support the bid approval process.

  • Support Sales / Marketing and Business Development in documenting the product area's relative technical competitive position and market trends, contributing to strategic initiatives and developing technical sales/demonstration material.

  • Oversee technical support of industry working groups and conferences.

  • Support strategic partnering with customers and industry.

  • Cultivate strong relationships with technical counterparts at our US military customers.

  • Be the internal voice of the US military customer for product development activities, providing high level requirements and guiding detailed design activities.

  • Provide technical support to Program Managers to ensure projects are successful and that the profit objectives are met.

  • Lead system architecture development for our products, developing design solutions and guiding them from concept to production

  • Mentor junior engineers to develop their product domain knowledge.

  • Troubleshoot major problems with our suppliers, partners, or customers.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in an engineering field from an accredited college or university.

  • Strong experience in an Engineering Design and New Product Introduction environment.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience with hardware/circuit board design and mechanical packaging constraints.

  • Existing domain expertise in the area of US Military HUMS and US Military IVHM products.

  • Experience with new business pursuit / proposal development.

  • Participation / experience on Aviation industry committee activities.

  • Experience in working directly with US Military customers and their leadership.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

  • Ability to guide and influence others.

  • Demonstrated process orientation in approach to work.

  • US Government security clearance may be required in the future.

  • Experience developing and providing submittals for government technology grants.
