The Flight Management System team is looking for a Lead Systems Engineer to help deliver highest quality Flight Management Systems to our customers. The Lead Systems Engineer will be responsible for the execution of all aspects of the systems engineering development lifecycle including system requirements development, design, implementation, verification, and test. The lead will manage technical scope, schedule, cost, and risk, while ensuring project plans are adhered to. Throughout the project lifecycle the lead will coordinate with the project team, and with members of other departments, to ensure the product is documented and designed to appropriate quality, certification, and industry standards. The Lead Systems Engineer will also act as a mentor for other team members, ensuring the core team builds upon its existing product and process knowledge.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Execute plans for system development and verification in accordance with GE Aviation processes, ARP4754A and RTCA/DO-297.

  • Generate system functional requirements from stakeholder expectations. Allocate requirements to sub-systems/hardware/software components per design.

  • Validate and verify systems requirements in accordance with project plans.

  • Participate in architecture and trade studies as needed to develop a system architecture compliant with customer requirements.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve integration/verification issues.

  • Interpret and manage interconnect definition for physical and logical interfaces.

  • Coordinate with Technical Manager, Technical Lead and Engineering Project Manager to generate and execute project/design plans and reviews.

  • Coordinate with sub-system teams on product development and delivery milestones, execute verification strategy for interim and final product deliveries.

  • Develop and execute test cases and procedures to verify the system under test.

  • Manage and coordinate issues, problem reports and change requests to closure.

  • Coordinate design changes and deliveries with Safety, Security and Certification organizations.

  • Interact with customer engineering organizations to define and shape requirements for future platforms and systems.

  • Accountable for cost and schedule performance on assigned activities. Maintain Activity Based Metrics (ABMs), track Earned Value (EV) and report to project leadership.

  • Embrace lean methodologies and experience with Kaizen and problem solving techniques.

  • Available and willing to travel up to 25%.

Required Qualification:

  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or other technical/science discipline.

  • Minimum of 6 years of working experience in the avionics design and verification activities.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Self-starter with the ability to lead the effort with minimum supervision.

  • Avionics system requirements, integration and verification experience.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.

  • Prior experience with FMS development and verification preferred.

  • Working knowledge of ARP 4754, ARP 4761 and DO-178.

  • Experience with interfaces and protocols including ARINC 429, ARINC 664, ARINC 615A and ARINC 825, ARINC 610C, ARINC 653/IMA architecture experience.

  • Experience with DOORS requirements management tool and version control tools.

  • Experience with ARINC 661 display protocol is a plus.
