Job Description Summary

The Platform Computing Systems (PCS) Lead Systems Engineer is responsible for the architecture, development, and support of PCS Computing Products. The PCS Lead Systems Engineer is expected to have or develop a broad and deep level of expertise that relates to the PCS Computing Products.

Essential Responsibilities:

The PCS Lead Systems Engineer position will perform and provide technical direction for the development, engineering, interfacing, integration, and verification of complex hardware / software for aviation-based computing systems. The PCS Lead Engineer will demonstrate domain expertise and skills in aviation computing products with an initial focus on systems level verification processes. The PCS Lead Engineer will also provide technical guidance to other personnel supporting complex projects and/or tasks and will show leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and processes for an area or business segment. This role requires strong analytical, problem solving, written and oral communication skills. Expectations are that the PCS Lead Engineer must be self-motivated, willing to learn, detail-oriented, and able to work collaboratively with others in a process-centric environment.

In addition, the Lead Systems Engineer will:

  • Lead a systems team as it develops and verifies PCS Computing Products

  • Communicate effectively with the customer and convey the customer’s requirements and concerns to the rest of the team

  • Convey the status and performance of the project systems team to key internal GE stakeholders

  • Maintain expert level of product knowledge and application

  • Articulate architectural technology and product positioning to key stakeholders including program, project, business, and technical management

  • Collaborate with the product development teams to establish solution architectures for our product suite and the needs of our customers

  • Perform project execution including planning, schedule, cost, technical, risk and quality

  • Act as a mentor for other team members ensuring the core team builds its strength

  • Provide technical oversight to ensure developed solutions satisfy customer and business requirements

  • Serve as a technical leader for projects across global cross-functional teams (customers, product / program management, technical experts, safety team, and applications engineering) assuring “cradle to grave” success

  • Proactively initiate engagement with support groups for review concurrence and compliance in:

  • Hardware

  • Software

  • Quality Assurance

  • Safety

  • Reliability

  • Maintainability & Testability

  • Manufacturing

  • Test

  • Travel to project sites to perform on-site troubleshooting, integration, and support technical meetings

  • Document aspects of the project details and maintain a constant communication flow with support groups, management, and executives to ensure all stakeholders stay current

  • Resolve customer issues or difficulties in a manner that is consistent with the company mission, values, and financial objectives

  • Maintain professional business relationships within internal support organizations and target accounts

  • Provide status of ongoing projects and future projects

  • Identify customer needs and sales opportunities to help future growth

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other technical / science discipline.

  • Minimum of 5 years hands-on design, implementation, integration, testing, verification, and experience involving; Avionics Engineering Systems, Hardware / Software Engineering, and/or Electrical Design

Eligibility Requirements: (Country Specific)

This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment

Desired Characteristics:

  • Familiarity with aspects of aviation and avionics systems engineering including standard like SAE ARP-4754A, DO-178B/C, DO-297, and DO-254

  • Self-starter with the ability to lead the effort with minimum supervision and work hard to meet commitments/deadlines

  • Experience developing system architectures derived from customer requirements including military applications

  • Hands-on capability to handle test equipment and tools (DOORS, RCT/RDB, RACE, ACT), scripting languages (VAIS, Python, DXL, and Visual Basic), and Excel

  • Understanding and translating customer requirements for applications development for software solutions

  • Experience with DOORs requirements management tools, and RTC defect tracking

  • Experience with system testing processes, tools, and automation

  • Ability to implement customer and industry standards

  • Ability to work in a cross-functional, global environment

  • Ability to engage and build positive relationships with both customers and internal and external employees

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Customer technical interface experience

  • System project estimation and bidding experience

  • Familiarity with GE engineering standards like ENG-PRO-002
