General Electric Lead Manufacturing Specialist - Lean Manufacturing in Grand Forks, North Dakota

Job Description Summary

The primary objective of the position within LM Wind Power is to translate the plant Lean Masterplan into activities and actions to improve relevant plant KPIs (financial and non-financial).

Activities such as Lean Projects, LMPS, ‘why-not’, best practice sharing, standardization, Kaizen events, reporting, communication, mentoring, skills capability improvement, networking will also be at the core of this position to ensure sustainable results and development of Lean culture at the plant.

This will be accomplished through effective collaboration and working relationships with broad range of stakeholders across the plant in all functions. This position will utilize Lean, Six Sigma, Change and Project Management principles, methods, tools and techniques in combination with training, coaching, and influencing skills to achieve specific financial and non-financial objectives.

The position will also actively participate in the broader scope of the Lean function including promoting and implementing the departments strategy/road map.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lean culture

  • Support/deliver Lean Strategy in the Plant

  • Influence key stakeholders of Lean Strategy

  • Develop/support Lean culture though activities and behaviors

  • Ensure plant has Lean capacity and capability versus standards, continually enhance Lean skill, and practices across the plant

  • Ensure Lean teams are focusing on improving their main KPIs

  • Ensure plant follow agreed LM/GE Lean standards

  • Ensure relevant plant communication on Lean improvements through the defined channels

  • Support/conduct relevant assessments (eg LMPS, LEAN/BF)

  • Strong shop floor presence with close interaction with operators to foster lean mindset within the teams

  • Lean projects

  • Lead and/or Support on small to medium level impact projects (mainly PDCA or GB projects)

  • Follow up projects (time, impact, sustainability)

  • Facilitate execution and when necessary provide additional coaching and training

  • Support/run plant Kaizen events

  • Where necessary provide full project life cycle support

  • Track financial impact of initiatives

  • Communicate status of results of projects to relevant stakeholders

  • Ideas and suggestions program (Why not? Program)

  • Coordinate Why-Not via standard processes through to sustainable execution

  • Identify from Why-Not? Program Best Practices for sharing and implementing

  • LM Production System (LMPS)

  • Lead and drive LMPS at the plant

  • Support on plant LMPS road map Development

  • Implementation of LMPS across plant

  • Track implementation at plant

  • Best practice sharing

  • Feedback loop to Global Lean Leaders: Processes and Methods

  • Define and execute /support LMPS training plan at all levels and areas (link also with Center of Excellence)

  • People development

  • Support training, development processes

  • Support evaluation & feedback

  • Coach & mentor team members and stakeholders

  • Fully engage with ‘Share Beliefs’ culture

  • Provide training and coaching on Lean Tools and system to all levels (from new hires to management team)

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with a strong preference in Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical or Manufacturing Eng. required (from a recognized Institute)

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience across the value chain of which 2 years dedicated to Operations

Desired Characteristics

  • Master Degree preferred in Production / Industrial Engineering (from a recognized Institute)

  • Previous experience with Lean manufacturing implementation

  • Successfully completed number of Lean Projects

  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt - (from a recognized Institute)

  • Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office packages

  • Flexible for international travel up to 25% of their time

  • Fluency in English language, other relevant language skills desirable

  • Strong preference for blade manufacturing experience and plant interfaces

  • Must be “hands-on” and practical with ‘can-do’ attitude

  • Strong organizing skills

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems

  • Demonstrated influencing and engaging skills across cross-functional teams

  • Demonstrate strong communication skills (including written, presentations)

  • Must have a result-oriented leadership style

  • Self-starter/learning and ability to navigate through the organization with ease

  • Demonstrated experience of cost out across value chain (inc. customer and supplier partnerships)

  • Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships and proactively supports/helps others and responds to their needs to build strong working relationships

  • Flexible team player with ability to lead/coordinate and develop others

  • Demonstrated ability to lead/coordinate programs/projects

  • Demonstrated skills on managing internal / external customer satisfaction

  • Demonstrated ability to provide mentoring/coaching at across value chain

  • Demonstrated experience of working across functions: Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, Supply Chain, Sourcing, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrialization

  • Demonstrated experience in programs and project management in matrix organization

  • Flexibility to support teams in different shift schedules, when necessary.

  • Lean Manufacturing - Preferable (from a recognized Institute)

  • Project Management Professional

  • Skills in using Microsoft Projects

  • Change management

  • Grow Plant Leaders (LM internal training)

  • Understanding of LM business systems (Axapta, BMS etc.)
