Job Description Summary

Senior SAE TRACG Engineer - Simulation Assisted Engineering (SAE) works within the SAE team by enabling LEAN integrated plant design (IPD) using modern digital engineering tools and techniques. SAE is a collaborative, cross-disciplinary, systems engineering approach to complex IPD, analysis, and optimization. SAE is based on the use of a modern, physics and mathematics, digital engineering modeling and simulation software toolkit. Focus is on technical risk, engineering labor, and schedule duration reduction during first of a kind (FOAK) plant design.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Maintain the SAE TRACG integrated basedeck including:

  • Modification of the Safety Analysis basedeck to connect within the SAE Integrated Plant Design Environment.

  • Stand alone TRACG analysis for quick lean design work.

  • Sensitivity studies in TRACG and SAE Integrated Plant Design Environment.

  • Collaborate in cross-functional environment of; Systems, Instrumentation & Controls, and Human Factors Engineering to successful deployment, implementation, and lifecycle stewardship of the multi-organization and multi-geographic SAE environment.

  • Assist in maintaining a singular master plant simulation model in SAE environment while ensuring requirements and configuration management are updated and baselined as necessary.

  • Develop and edit system models in an integrated simulation environment.

  • Develop and run scenarios for single systems, collections of interrelated systems, or entire power plant for: startup, shutdown, and maneuvering throughout all modes of plant operations.

  • Collaborate with simulation software supplier to prepare plans, procedures, and reports then perform factory acceptance test (FAT) and site acceptance test (SAT) for simulator, Discrepancy Reports (DR), enhancement requests, technical oversight issues, and training needs.

  • Collaborate with Engineering Discipline teams to prepare, review, and implement SAE modelling:

  • discipline guides (DG), work instructions (WI), and design practices (DP), documentation templates.

  • check lists to encourage standard work with consistency, completeness, and adequacy as appropriate throughout Conceptual, Preliminary, and Detail Design Phases.

  • processes and techniques to; confirm then verify, test then validate, and integrate Discipline specific models into singular master plant simulation model, and

  • help achieve system functional and performance goals.

  • Provide technical assistance with modeling, integration to support personnel.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical, Nuclear, Systems, Software, Computer Science or Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or equivalent 4-year technical degree.

  • 4 years of experience using TRACG, RELAP5, or Similar

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in an engineering role

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in nuclear system design activities including development of process flow diagrams, thermodynamic and heat/fluid flow transfer calculations, engineering specifications, etc.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of the time as required.

  • The preferred work location for this role is at the GEH Headquarters in Wilmington, NC; but highly qualified (US based) remote candidates will be considered.

Desired Characteristics

  • Master of Science in Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical, Nuclear, Systems, Software, Computer Science or Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics.

  • Knowledge of common computer languages (C#, C++, etc.) and software development tools (Version control, IDE’s, Debuggers, etc.).

  • Experience in software development.

  • Ability to effectively function in a dynamic design environment and manage the demands of multiple tasks and projects, while maintaining an uncompromised commitment to personal and nuclear safety principles

  • Senior Reactor Operator (SRO) license or certification

  • Diagram and drawing [e.g.; Visio/Microsoft, Autocad/Autodesk],

  • Design and analysis simulation [e.g.; 3KeyMaster/WSC],

  • Experience developing high fidelity engineering simulator or FSS integrated with a DCS platform either via virtual controller or emulation.

  • Knowledge of:

  • ANSI/ANS-3.5-2009 Nuclear Power Plant simulators for use in operator training and examination

  • REG GUIDE 1.149 Nuclear Power Plant Simulation Facilities for use in operator training, License examination and applicant experience requirements.

  • Experience with plant process fluidic and mechanical piping, instrumentation diagram (P&ID) and plant electric power distribution systems (EPDS) one or single line diagram (OLD/SLD).

The salary range for this position is $112K - $149K. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location. In addition, this position is eligible for a performance bonus.
