General Electric Director, CDX Architecture in Glen Allen, Virginia

Job Description Summary

The Director of CDX Architecture is responsible for managing a team of globally dispersed Enterprise Architects charged with designing and extending the architecture of customer digital experience ecosystem. This includes the integration of existing GE technologies as well as ongoing partnerships with strategic third parties and clients. This position involves close interaction with product managers, solutions architects, technology architects, development leads, and key customers. A strong technical background is required with a particular emphasis on healthcare operations, clinical asset management and RFID technologies.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Teach, coach and mentor Architects on the team

  • Guides multi-generational technology and solutions strategies based on understanding of the market, customer needs, competitors, and regulatory requirements/standards

  • Manages and oversees design recommendations for solutions for CDX portfolio. Designs includes documentation, graphical representation, and presentations that describe the desired solution or product feature. Documentation includes volume and usage predictions, user interface design concepts, error prevention and detection strategies, and flow design.

  • Researches and evaluates solutions alternatives and delivers proposals that meet competitive needs.

  • Analyzes existing competitive systems against product strategies and makes well-defined recommendations and execution plans for efficiency and architecture/design improvements within and outside the execution of current projects.

  • Meet with key stakeholders (including Product Management, clients and partners) to discuss technical design decisions and their implications. Gather feedback through simultaneous engineering sessions with internal and external partners.

  • Lead and provide guidance to a globally dispersed team of architects and technical resources

  • Provides input into the technology plan for the CDX organization. Advises management on application and supporting technology acquisitions and on future projects or environment upgrades/modifications

  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with peers and vendors to seamlessly integrate the project area into the overall strategic objectives and activities of the organization

  • Collaborate with product managers to understand market requirements and the competitive landscape for existing and new products

  • Identify constraints and assumptions that shape the product’s scope, cost and time to market.

Desired Characteristics / Technical Expertise:

  • Ability to analyze, design, and develop a software solution roadmap and implementation plan based upon a current vs. future state of the business.

  • Experience with cloud-based technologies, including Azure and AWS, building cloud technology IaaS and PaaS implementations/understanding of "cloud native"

  • Knowledge of Microservices and SOA architecture

  • Experience with Docker and container orchestration (Mesos/Kubernetes) preferred

  • Experience in building scalable and highly available distributed systems

  • Experience sustaining operational stability through various life cycle phases (planning, implementation, steady state, de-commissioning); Ability to provision and budget via capital and operating.

  • Experience working with High Availability and Fault Tolerant architectures

Leadership:

  • Previous experience managing technical teams in a geographically dispersed environment

  • Foresee obstacles, identify workarounds, leverage resources, rally teammates.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with and/or lead blended teams, including 3rd party partners and customer personnel.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including creativity and curiosity with ability to effectively communicate and influence across all organizational levels

  • Proven analytical and problem resolution skills

  • Ability to influence and build consensus with other technology teams and leadership
