Role Summary:

This Scientist will serve as a laboratory scientist in a drilling and completion fluids test lab. This Scientist will perform laboratory testing in support of drilling and completions fluids operations. Field support will include identifying and solving various problems related to drilling and completion fluid properties and maintenance. Fluid formulation and testing will be carried out to support customer proposals. Some product development work may be required.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Plans and performs testing to support field operations and commercial bids for moderate to high complexity projects.

  • May be lead chemist/scientist on challenging projects with some functional supervision.

  • May participate in vendor interface.

  • May work closely with sales to help support customer.

  • Operates with some latitude in making autonomous decisions.

  • Selects scientific techniques to solve problems and makes sound design recommendations.

  • Assesses results for applicability, validity, and conformance to specifications.

  • Helps develop new methods and products.

  • Handles special projects, as assigned


  • Bachelor's Degree with 5+ years of DCF experience in field or laboratory setting OR Non-degreed candidate with 10+ years of experience in a DCF Field and/or DCF Laboratory setting

  • Knowledge of API testing procedures for drilling and completion fluids.

  • Knowledge of water- and oil-based drilling and drill-in fluids.

  • Ability to resolve complex problems with broad scope.

  • Advanced analytical skills.

  • Ability to communicate well individually and in team environment.

  • Advanced knowledge of sciences.

Desired Characteristics:

  • 5+ years of experience in drilling fluids and/or completion fluids, particularly in a field and laboratory setting.

  • Ideally 10+ years of field experience in drilling and/or completion fluids applications with both field and laboratory experience

  • Familiarity with Baker Hughes Drilling and Completion Fluids products
