The Projects Construction Technician will be responsible for Wind Project phase tasks related to the safe construction and installation of wind turbine generators of various styles and scope, throughout the United States.

Job Description

Role Summary/Purpose

The Projects Construction Technician will be responsible for Wind Project phase tasks related to the safe construction and installation of wind turbine generators of various styles and scope, throughout the United States.

Essential Responsibilities

As the Projects Construction Technician, you will:

  • Safely perform various duties related to Wind Turbine generator construction, installation and additional duties as needed to ensure successful energization and operation

  • Work cross functionally with various GE and Non GE teams to ensure proper wind turbine functionality at various phases of installation

  • Upgrade Wind turbine equipment in accordance to a Wind Park project plan

  • Handle self-reporting of time and expenses weekly

  • Drive and enforce a Safety Culture in accordance with all GE EHS and equipment safety guidelines

  • Participate in daily safety briefings and follow up discussions

  • Ensure the timely and accurate completion of project inspections and reports

  • Learn and adopt a Lean mindset to drive continuous improvement in all steps of project execution

  • Diagnose, problem solve and perform tasks across complicated mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical wind turbine generator systems

  • Help in all areas of site preparation (coordination of labor and materials) with minimal supervision

  • Document all work performed using computer based service reporting procedures

  • Communicate site status to engineers, customers, and management

Qualifications/Requirements

  • High School Diploma / GED

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in Wind Turbine Installation OR as a Wind Turbine Technician OR Minimum of 2 years of related experience in electrical, mechanical, hydraulics, Rewable energy or similar field

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally 90% of the time, as required

  • Ability and willingness to operate heavy equipment

  • Ability and willingness to signal and rig loads up to 100 tons

  • Ability and willingness to work and climb heights a minimum of 300ft

  • Ability to meet specific OSHA weight limits of 250 to 300lbs max

  • Ability and willingness to possess and maintain a valid driver's license

  • Ability and willingness to handle repetitive weight - 50 lbs

  • Ability and willingness to work in all weather conditions

  • Ability and willingness to work in range of environments to include but not limited to industrial facilities, manufacturing facilities, and power industry facilities

  • Ability and willingness to be available for rotation shift schedules 24 hours, seven days a week

Desired Characteristics

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Technical, Electrical, or Electronics field from an accredited college or university

  • Technical Certification in Wind Energy or Electrical / Electronic field

  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematic drawings

  • Ability to work with a wide variety of personnel at all levels inside and outside of the Wind Farm

  • Wind turbine experience

  • Ability and willingness to take initiative, and work without direct supervision

  • Ability and willingness to read, interpret technical manuals, procedures, and regulations

  • Ability to write reports, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure

  • Electrical, mechanical, and/or hydraulic experience

  • Experience using hydraulic power tools

  • Experience with heavy equipment required for facility maintenance with a working knowledge of crane and rigging requirements

  • Proficient computers skills in Excel, Word, Web Tools

  • Strong customer service mindset

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
