Role Summary:

Baker Hughes, a GE company is currently hiring an Intellectual Property Litigation Counsel based in Houston, Texas.

This position will have primary responsibility for all intellectual property litigation matters and related activities as well as reporting and communication with other Legal and BHGE leadership. This position will, in collaboration with product line IP counsel, address litigation issues and assertions in an efficient and results oriented fashion. In this role the employee will develop high level litigation and enforcement strategies, work directly with product lines and law firms regarding potential and ongoing litigation decisions, develop budgets and decisions trees, determine the likely value and risk associated with each case and as a result the cases potential value, administer litigation holds, set litigation reserve values when appropriate and report out to both Associate General Counsel for IP and Associate General Counsel for Litigation. This position will work closely with the BHGE general litigation team assuring best practices are deployed across the enterprise. Other IP and/or litigation responsibilities may be assigned. At all times the viable candidate must demonstrate a thoughtful and reasoned approach to all decisions while exhibiting the highest levels of integrity and professionalism.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Managing IP Litigation and ADR dispute matters including driving successful strategies and on budget performance

  • Review of key litigation documents and briefs and provide efficient editing of same

  • Liaising with key Product Line Counsel and other internal stakeholders to affect the above and proactively address new dispute issues

  • Report out to Chief Litigation Counsel on key Litigation metrics

  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to handle and prioritize multiple time sensitive projects.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s and law degrees

  • JD from an ABA accredited law school

  • Licensed to practice law in Texas

  • Licensed to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark office

  • Minimum eight years intellectual property litigation experience with emphasis on patent litigation

  • Exceptional presentation and communication skills

  • Ability to analyze and distill complex issues for senior management

  • Ability to correlate licensing & litigation strategy with business strategy

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and in a team-based environment

Desired Characteristics:

  • Preparation and prosecution of domestic and foreign patent & trademark applications

  • Knowledge and experience with managing an assigned intellectual property portfolio including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets

  • Assisting in developing global IP protection strategies; and providing related legal counseling to world class scientists and corporate management staff regarding intellectual property matters

  • Experience with the upstream oilfield business in general and oilfield service business in particular is preferred.
