General Electric Thermal Systems Design Engineer, Secondary Flows - XA100 in Evendale, Ohio

Job Description Summary

GE Aerospace – Edison Works is looking for a Thermal Systems Design Engineer to join our world-class Engineering Team to work XA100 Secondary Flows design and push the state-of-the-art.

In this role, you will work on new designs for engine secondary flow systems, and you’ll be able to see your designs progress to manufacturing and engine test. You will also lead the post-processing, deign-test correlation after component and engine tests.

Responsibilities include establishing aero thermal design requirements with stakeholders and developing secondary flow architectures and system/subsystem thermal designs to meet technical and program requirements. Desired experience is in the fundamentals of compressible flows, heat transfer, and knowledge of turbine engine design and operation.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Execute, with guidance from senior engineering resources, the design and analysis of assigned secondary flow, rotor/stator heat transfer and thermal heat exchanger design projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards and program / product requirements

  • Perform trade studies to define and optimize system design within constraints

  • Build and demonstrate knowledge of relevant physics and how design components or subsystems interact and integrate into the larger system or product

  • Ensure secondary flow system definition accurately represents component characteristics

  • Understand system design margin requirements

  • Understand system risk and identifies potential abatements

  • Ensure overall system balances design, cost, lifecycle support and customer requirements

  • Contribute to and present at technical and design reviews

  • Document and communicate results of technical data generated

  • Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace / Aeronautical Engineering from an accredited college or university (or high school diploma/GED with 6 years' experience in disciplinary engineering and science)

  • This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.

  • Must be a US citizen and hold or be able to obtain a US security clearance

Desired Characteristics

  • Active government security clearance

  • Advanced degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering related to heat transfer or fluid mechanics preferred

  • Experience in the fundamentals of compressible flow, heat transfer, and thermodynamics.

  • Experience with fluid flow (1D flow networks or CFD) & heat transfer analytical software and computer codes.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; established project management skills.

  • History of successfully working on and leading teams
