General Electric Structural Castings Supplier Quality Engineer in Evendale, Ohio

Role Summary:

The successful candidate will have technical depth in metal casting and will serve as technical liaison between casting sources and the design engineering community at GE. The Structural Castings Supplier Quality Engineer will champion producible casting designs, robust quality plans, and meaningful source substantiation requirements for cast hardware in development.

Essential Responsibilities:

The Structural Castings Supplier Quality Engineer will lead quality initiatives at assigned casting suppliers to minimize quality events and streamline the process from input to delivery.

In addition, you will:

  • Participate and contribute in design reviews for cast hardware in development and in production

  • Advocate design changes for cost reduction, MRB elimination, and yield improvement

  • Own Supplier Quality at assigned casting sources

  • Own qualification for casting process changes by setting requirements and assigning reviewers

  • Review supplier submitted routers, significant operation work instructions, and first article data to determine part conformance and process capability

  • Own supplier improvement plans related to non-conformances, quality escapes, and other metrics to drive reductions to target levels

  • Use data analytics to identify risks and opportunities for quality improvement and escape prevention

  • In the event of a quality escape, quickly and thoroughly investigate across any necessary organization to determine containment actions, root cause, and corrective actions

  • Visits prospective casting sources to assess feasibility to produce GE Aviation cast hardware

  • Presents to senior leaders (EB and SEB) in specific purchasing space and on cross functional teams on how purchasing contributes to overall strategy

  • Advises Functional managers or other Leaders regarding approaches, processes and procedures within own field

  • Serves as a project leader of medium sized projects

  • Includes both Supplier Quality Assurance and Supplier Quality Development

  • Includes supplier qualifications, action plans, audits, performance monitoring, and assisting key suppliers towards industrial standards of excellence

  • SQEs have various levels of differentiation which are related to level of technical understanding of engineering drawings and ability to manage vendors

  • Develops new solutions under guidance and/or in a team setting or based upon precedents in the organizations

  • Balance both tactical execution with strategic initiatives necessary to drive cost reduction projects

  • Works together with high level people from the business at SPB and EB level

  • Specifies needs, communicates about project approach and presents outcomes of research done. Provides technical / commercial assistance to Commodity Buyers to develop awareness of manufacturing processes and improve product knowledge

  • Actively participate in supplier performance reviews

  • Contributes to project as a team member or leads small projects Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college (OR high School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years experience in quality, manufacturing or engineering)

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in Product Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Supplier or Production Quality ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT(S):

  • This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment Desired Characteristics:

  • Significant knowledge of manufacturing and special processes related to Aerospace investment casting

  • Ability to navigate qualification process of Aerospace cast hardware

  • Materials Engineering background from either degree or work experience

  • Ability to review casting process and determine opportunities for improvements

  • Solid understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing

  • Aptitude to evaluate or propose Quality System changes to improve supplier quality

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills

  • Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously

  • Effective problem identification and solution skills
