Job Description Summary

Senior Maritime Sales Engineer serves as the customer's primary technical leader within the Marine organization addressing customer operational requirements and technical concerns. As the senior technical expert the Maritime Technical Sales Engineer is the trusted truth source regarding gas turbine systems integration, interface control, installation design, product performance predictions, life cycle cost matters, marine fuel evaluation, equipment test and certification for ship builders, maritime customers, and naval architects.

The Senior Maritime Technical Sales Engineer and Application Team serve as the voice of the customer addressing technical needs and is the “face of GE” regarding all Navy, Maritime, and Ship Builder gas turbine system technical solutions.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provides technical expertise and develops technical solutions (configuration, performance estimation, maritime regulations, naval propulsion operations etc.) as part of the capture process while interfacing with the commercial team. Possesses a deep understanding of relevant markets and customer values that aid winning bid strategies. To include: working as a bridge between customers, commercial teams, and engineering teams.

  • In some marine Industries, the Applications Engineer is likened to a Sales Engineer. Across the span of a campaign, the Applications Engineer, in coordination with the Sales team, will lead the development and evaluation of propulsion plant trade studies and provide technical responses for all Customer RFI’s and RFP’s.

  • The Senior applications engineer works side-by-side with Marine systems engineers to coordinate technical solutions that are unique to the Customer’s vessel and propulsion plant needs. These topics might address topics such as unique interface requirements, non-standard performance requests, military and commercial specification compliance, vessel integration concerns on intake, exhaust and ventilation (for instance), and gas turbine auxiliary and support system integration needs.

  • Technical analysis of client need(s): definition and optimization of the products; scope; schedule; industrial scheme; cost, considering contract and internal policies and procedures. Calculation of plant, system and equipment performance and efficiency. Documentation of technical specifications & costing elements for further contract execution phases. This also includes where engineers work on customizing the products and implementing it for specific customer needs.

  • Developing expertise in own function. Representing the GE Marine business as the technical expert in their discipline, providing professional or thought leadership within the marketplace. Influences policy internally and externally and ensures delivery within area of responsibility, linking with other parts of the organization.

  • Interprets internal and external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes or services. Utilizes understanding of industry trends to inform decision making process.

  • Leads others to find creative solutions within complex systems processes with technical variety and/or interdependent production cycles. Has the ability to evaluate quality of information received and questions conflicting data for analysis. Uses multiple internal and external resources outside of own function to help arrive at a decision.

  • May lead functional teams or projects with moderate resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity. Presents business or technical discipline solutions to leaders. Communicates complex messages and negotiates mainly internally with others to adopt a different point of view. Influences peers to take action and may negotiate with external partners, vendors, or customers. Integrates within the commercial team providing trusted technical advice internally and externally.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Engineering

  • Minimum of 5 years engineering experience in maritime propulsion, Gas Turbine technology, maritime systems and/or maritime customer knowledge (commercial and/or Military)

  • US Citizenship Required
