General Electric Program Leader – Additive Materials Development in Evendale, Ohio

Role Summary:GE Aviation is looking for Engineers to join our fast-growing Advanced Military Engineering business. As Program Leader – Additive Materials Development, you will use your materials expertise and program management skills to lead several key alloy and modality development programs in support of our commercial and military aviation products. These critical technologies include DMLM (Direct Metal Laser Melting) in several alloys including Titanium, Aluminum, Nickel, and Cobalt-based alloys.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead collaborative cross-functional teams (materials, design, manufacturing, quality) to increase the technical maturity of advanced additive manufacturing methods using the TRL / MRL process

  • Execute technical projects & programs required to reduce technical risk associated with new additive manufacturing methods, building and leveraging significant domain expertise in the additive field

  • Provide MAE (Materials Application Engineering) support for parts under development that utilize additive manufacturing

  • Make cross-product linkages, leveraging additive expertise to provide insights on current and potential additive components

  • Partner with design engineering, Supply Chain, and GE Additive to develop materials and their associated additive manufacturing processes in order to advance design technology and reduce cost

  • Recommend approaches to the design team utilizing current best practices to influence CTQ (Critical to Quality) identification and improve designs, taking advantage of additive and the specific traits of the materials under development

  • Proactively identify lessons learned and best practices and ensure appropriate documentation

  • Provide consultation and share expertise with colleagues also developing additive technologies

  • Communicate significant developments with leadership and consult on technical roadmap development

  • Provide input on impact of proposed manufacturing or design changes, as requested

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Science or closely-related Engineering field from an accredited college or university

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in a materials science engineering position

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT(S):

  • This role requires use of technical data subject to U.S. Government contract restrictions and this posting is only for U.S. Citizens. GE will require proof of status prior to employment

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance

Desired Characteristics:

  • 10 years of experience in a materials science experience, with a minimum of 5 years of industry experience in addition to any academic experience

  • Experience leading or supporting a TRL (Technical Readiness Level) development program

  • Experience with additively manufactured materials, particularly DMLM

  • Experience with titanium and/or aluminum-based aerospace alloys

  • Experience with nickel and/or cobalt-based aerospace alloys

  • Advanced degree in Materials Science or related Engineering field from an accredited college or university

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Ability to guide and influence others, especially those not in a direct reporting position
