General Electric Lead Thermal Systems Design Engineer, Component Cooling & CFD - XA100 in Evendale, Ohio
Job Description Summary
GE Aerospace – Edison Works is looking for a Lead Thermal Systems Design Engineer to join our world-class Engineering Team to work XA100 hot-section component cooling designs, computational fluid dynamics, and push the state-of-the-art.
In this role, you will work on new designs for hot-section components, and you’ll be able to see your designs progress to manufacturing and engine test. You will also lead the post-processing, deign-test correlation after component and engine tests.
Responsibilities include thermal characterization of hardware and design of dedicated cooling and leakage flows in aircraft engines. Additionally, the role will support Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) based analysis pertaining to combustion aerodynamics, turbine aerodynamics, wheelspace cavities, and heat transfer. Priorities include improving CFD based predictive capability for hardware durability and advanced combat engine systems.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
Perform CFD simulation, including geometry modification and meshing, using various commercial software, and analysis using existing ANSYS FLUENT Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) and Hybrid Large Eddy Simulation (HLES) standard practices in support of new engine designs and fielded products.
Present modeling results, validation, and upcoming milestone status to relevant customers
Assist in developing new capability for modeling thermal predictions.
Use and develop in-house engineering tools to perform thermal evaluations.
Understand system design margin requirements
Understand system risk and identifies potential abatements
Participate throughout the design process to analyze and influence the combustor, rotor, stator, and/or component cooling designs from the design phase through certification.
Execute with guidance the analysis, design, test and integration of fluid systems to meet business standards, practices and procedures, and the product/program requirements.
Plan and execute component and engine test programs and utilize the results to validate engine designs, systems, and analytical models.
Prepare invention disclosures for technology that provides a competitive advantage.
Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace / Aeronautical Engineering from an accredited college or university (or high school diploma/GED with 6 years' experience in disciplinary engineering and science)
Minimum of 3 years' experience in disciplinary engineering and science

Desired Characteristics
Advanced degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering with a focus in CFD application and methods development
Strong familiarity with ANSYS FLUENT
Experience with creating structured/unstructured meshes using commercial packages.
Familiarity with performing advanced CFD simulation in High Performance Computing (HPC) environments.
Good understanding of Fluid Dynamics, Thermodynamics, CFD and Heat Transfer
Familiarity with RANS and HLES turbulence modeling
Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems.
