Job Description Summary

The Coatings Materials Application Engineer will help guide Coating Systems decisions for our next generation products with innovative material and process solutions. You will help execute the application of new technologies onto hardware and ensure legacy coating and coating system vitality.

Job Description

  • Understand design technical requirements that impact materials and process on assigned hardware and provide guidance to design and manufacturing

  • Define materials and processes for assigned hardware; reviews/approves hardware drawings & changes to design

  • Set requirements and dispositions initial part qualification and subsequent process/source changes

  • Resolve M&P related problems in the field or during manufacturing processes

  • Identify M&P technology gaps and updates strategies within areas related to assigned hardware

  • Apply lessons learned and best practices from field experience, manufacturing evolutions, property evaluations, and development programs

  • Provide materials input and participates in design reviews for hardware

  • Communicate hardware M&P status and results to department and program team members and leadership

  • Author technical reports for key decisions related to application of materials and processes for assigned hardware

  • B.S, M.S. or PhD degree in Materials Engineering, Materials Science or Polymer Science

  • At least 5 additional years of experience in an engineering position

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.

  • Ability to secure and maintain a Security Clearance

Desired

  • Existing Secret or Top Secret clearance

  • Understands basic principles of turbine engine operation

  • Experience with Aerospace Composites, Polymer Matrix Composites or Oxide-Oxide Ceramic Matrix Composites.

  • Experience with PMC or CMC industrial manufacturing, quality systems and field support.

  • Experience with metallic materials used in aircraft engines.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, quality systems, and failure analysis methods.

  • Solid oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Ability to work in a team environment
