General Electric Lead Manufacturing Engineer - Milling in Evendale, Ohio

Job Description Summary

The Lead Manufacturing Engineering will be responsible for all aspects of programming, processing, engineering, and manufacturing associated with Blisk manufacturing. Develop manufacturing process which are safe for human/part/machine, with high yield rates and best cost. In this role, you will partner with experienced CNC machine technicians, manufacturing, cutting tool, and CNC controls engineers to promote skills and competency growth. In addition to learning and developing new skills, you will be given the freedom to develop and test new stock removal methods. This role involves working with Design Engineering on NPI programs as well as Manufacturing Engineers from our production sites on legacy hardware as well as sharing knowledge.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

The Lead Manufacturing Engineering will:

  • Learn our blisk milling process and make recommendations to improve

  • Create blisk milling process for 5 axis milling machines

  • Utilize software tools for NX model conversion and adjustments, create tool path, machine simulation, validate tool path quality, optimize cutting conditions/forces, analyze tool and part frequency and post CNC program

  • Design work holding, define cutting tool holders and cutting tool selection

  • Exhibit ownership and take responsibility in attaining all aspects of manufacturing process including safety, scheduling, and quality

  • Creating planning and documentation for technicians to follow

  • Interpretating of engineering drawings / specifications

  • Read and understand airfoil drawing requirements, airfoil cmm data and adjust manufacturing process.

  • Partner with Design Engineering and provide manufacturing feedback on hardware design.

  • Partner with manufacturing sites on process transfer, methods and provide technical support

  • Investigate and apply new technology to support growth plans

Desired Experience

  • Blisk manufacturing experience

  • Concepts NREC Blisk milling software

  • NX CAD modeling

  • NX CAM programming in 3,4,5 axis milling

  • Program machine probing routines and on-machine inspection

  • Toolpath optimization with ThirdWave/MachPro and validation with Vericut machine simulation

  • Process monitoring with Caron Engineering

  • Tap of cutting tools and hardware to understand frequency’s

  • GD&T

  • Experience with airfoil quality and requirements experience

  • Experience with defining cutting tools and work holding fixtures

  • Aviation manufacturing process and materials

  • Demonstrated initiative to stay abreast of technology advancements

  • Effective problem identification and solution skills

  • Machine variable, Macro, GUD, Offset

  • Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects

  • Ability and willingness to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines

  • Overtime may be required to meet business goals

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including ability to lead technicians

  • Established project management skills

Qualifications/Requirement

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 4 years of experience in Manufacturing or Engineering)

Minimum of 3 years in Manufacturing or Engineering

  • Understands fundamentals of CNC machines and programming

  • Ability to make data driven decisions and utilize Six Sigma and Lean tools

  • Knowledge of safety agency regulations

  • Strong background in the interpretation of engineering drawings / specifications and manufacturing processes

  • Knowledge of ISO / quality procedures
