The Engineering Test Technician- Emissions performs and directs technical assignments involving the assembly, calibration, integration and operation of emissions testing, as well as the assembly, maintenance, modification, troubleshooting and repair of emissions-related test equipment under the leadership of appropriate staff, including more experienced senior specialists, engineers and project personnel. In addition, the Test Technician ensures the operation of emissions-related lab equipment and the organization and upkeep of lab spaces. The Test Technician works with operations and engineering personnel to ensure Test Systems Engineering provides the highest quality emissions data to its customers.

The Engineering Test Technician – Emissions, needs an understanding of, or willingness to learn/embrace concepts/knowledge regarding:

  • Fundamental Chemistry of Combustion

  • Fundamental concepts surrounding Thermodynamics

  • Fundamental concepts surrounding Fluid and Gas Dynamics

  • Fundamental concepts surrounding Psychrometrics

  • Fundamental concepts surrounding Aerosols

  • Emissions Measurement Systems

  • Global Emissions Regulatory Regulations and Environment

  • Industrial Automation including, but not limited to

  • Programmable Logic Controllers

  • Mass Flow Controllers

  • Flow control devices/strategies

  • Fluid flow systems

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Perform diverse and complex assignments in support of emission test configuration assembly, integration and test data collection

  • Manages Emissions Lab layout, operation, upkeep, and upgrade, as well as maintaining lab resources, as required.

  • Maintains visibility of, manages and prioritizes all work occurring in the Emissions lab based on collaboration with operations and engineering personnel, as required.

  • Conducts training of less experienced technicians, engineers, and others, as required.

  • Ensures personnel are properly trained and qualified for the tasking they are assigned.

In addition, as an Engineering Test Technician, you will:

  • Support and perform work in compliance to all Environmental, Health, and Safety programs, policies, and regulations

  • Support process improvement and technology development efforts with supervision and guidance from Lead Technicians and Engineering

  • Write Technical documents, test procedures, Operations instructions


Bachelors’ degree in an applicable technical discipline from an accredited school or institution or an Associate’s degree with five years of work experience in an applicable laboratory or shop environment


  • Must be physically capable of standing and working on your feet for moderately long periods of time (one to three hours), and working in potentially cramped spaces for limited periods of time

  • Must be able to climb stairs as required

  • Must be able to work from elevated platforms (cherry pickers or scissor lifts)

  • Must be physically capable of lifting and carrying items weighing as much as 50 lbs.

  • Must be willing and able to work in a fast paced, schedule-driven, and potentially stressful laboratory/shop environment

  • Ability and willingness to work overtime when required

This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.
