Job Description Summary

The Consulting Engineer for Producibility and NPI is responsible for growing and leading a community of technical experts within the Supply Chain to support the Producibility and NPI Tollgate goals of the business. It is a collaborative role with Engineering to lead the Producibility, Technology Readiness & Cost technical community and Design Board. This role will establish a robust process for Producibility, Technology Readiness and Costing for our product lines meeting the requirements of new product development and change management. This role will rely on working closely with various functional High levels of collaboration, influencing, and problem solving are required.

Essential Responsibilities

In addition, you will:

  • Develop and implement a competitive benchmarking strategy for manufacturing producibility, cost and manufacturing technology readiness levels (MRLs). Develop and drive standards and best practices for Producibility, Cost and MRLs across the Supply Chain, collaborating across organizations, sites & disciplines. Collaborate with Supply Chain intellectual property focal and manufacturing organizations to ensure IP strategies and roadmaps are sustained.

  • Lead and champion Supply Chain engagement for Producibility Reviews, Manufacturing Readiness Reviews, Cost Audits to meet product line requirements for New Product Introductions (NPI) and change management. Drive rigor in assessment and execution establishing workflows, methods and tools. Serve as the co-chairperson for the Producibility, Technology and Cost Technical Community across Supply Chain along with Engineering to deliver on their goals.

  • Manage the talent pipeline process for the Supply Chain candidates and controlled titles. Execute improvement efforts to strengthen technical domain health and capability. Work with management to identify a diverse range of candidates to address skill gaps in the pyramid. Lead efforts to implement coaching, mentoring, and training for the community and pipeline to develop the necessary expertise within the Supply Chain.

  • Serve as the Supply Chain Focal for should-cost and cost-based methods for process selection, integration of producibility in Engineering design, and manufacturing yield and cost analysis. Drive cost prediction accuracy for New Product Introduction (NPI) programs, manufacturing technology readiness (MRL), cost-out initiatives, and supplier cost estimations. Build strategies with quantifiable targets for achieving manufacturing cost readiness in MRL programs.

  • Lead and engage in problem solving and systematically enhance our processes to address manufacturing, cost and producibility challenges to meet product delivery and cost targets.

  • Set a culture of psychological safety where all voices are heard, respected, and encouraged. Advocate for diversity, inclusion, equality, and removal of unconscious bias.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college + Minimum of 8 years of experience in Design for manufacturing and cost, NPI manufacturing, MRL, producibility and process capability (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 10 years of experience in Design for manufacturing and cost, NPI manufacturing, MRL, producibility and process capability)

  • Must be a US Citizen

Desired Characteristics

  • Prior experience in aerospace manufacturing

  • Prior experience in executing cost-out projects, value engineering, lean manufacturing, shop floor production.

  • Prior experience with producibility reviews and process capability improvements.

  • Background in digital technology applying should-cost methods or cost audits.

  • People leadership experience and/or Black Belt.

  • Masters degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing/Industrial/Production Engineering.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills

  • Demonstrated ability to manage large projects and build teams to effectively solve problems. Track record of delivering results on programs.

  • Demonstrated ability to build consensus across organizations and think clearly under pressure.

  • Strategic systems thinking, risk abatement, and problem solving. Applies learnings within and across multiple pyramids, sites and organizations.

  • Strong Supply Chain and Engineering network.

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
