The Advanced Design Tools (ADT) team is a software organization which develops and maintains a portfolio of engineering tools for GE Aviation (commercial and military divisions). This portfolio covers a wide range of applications, including scientific simulation, modeling, visualization. As a member of ADT, you will develop and support new and existing Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software in that portfolio. The primary area of CFD applications will be in turbomachinery aerodynamics prediction and modeling: Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) and Large Eddy Simulations (LES). Your contributions will be directly aligned with GE Aviation’s technology initiatives to invent the future of flight.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities:
In this role, you will:
Plan, Develop and Support CFD system tools (pre/postprocessing) for RANS and LES solvers
Work with a global team of tool developers to create automated and robust CFD geometry, meshing, and post-processing capabilities for aero design (for RANS and LES)
Complete risk assessments, proofing out, validation and verification of new concepts
Get to know the customers and build a reputation of tool support with them to learn their needs and develop strategies to cut labor intensive and long cycle time efforts from their CFD design practices: pre-processing, solver interaction, and post-processing.
Learn and support CFD geometry and meshing tools and analysis for turbomachinery component design.
Train designers on tool products and execution
Work with the designers to create aerodynamics design best practices
Support design teams across GE Aviation: spanning multiple countries including US, Poland, India, and Mexico.
Support military and commercial tool applications.
Collaborate with users to identify issue, research problem, and propose solutions.
Provide timely communications on significant issues.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Bachelors of Science Degree in Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics
Minimum 7 years engineering experience in geometry creation and cleanup for CFD modeling (via CAD packages)
Minimum 7 years meshing/gridding experience for CFD modeling
Some tool development experience in automating meshing/gridding CFD modeling
Strong skills in tool development and multiple programming languages.
Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong cross-functional (IT/Engineering), teaming, and communication skills.
Location where work needs to be performed is Greenville, SC
Must be US Citizen
Desired Characteristics:
Preferred education: Master's or Doctorate Degree in Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering related to fluid mechanics
Engineering experience in turbo-machinery fundamentals and analysis
Prior experience with RANS and LES code development
Prior experience in turbomachinery geometry creation and model cleanup for automated meshing purposes
Prior experience in turbomachinery CFD meshing with a focus on tool creation/automation
Experience with analytical software such NX, PRO-Engineer, CATIA, Fluent (solver/meshing), Workbench, HyperMESH, STAR-CCM, or other geometry creation and meshing tools for CFD
Proficiency in programming languages: examples are scripting (C, perl, Predix), Fortran, C, macros (UG user functions, etc…)

Solid oral and written communication skills
Good communication skills and able to work within a team environment
Ability to work in a fast paced, multi-task environment
