General Electric CNC Machine Operator - Horizontal Turning in Erlanger, Kentucky

Role Summary:The Computer Numeric Control (CNC) Machine Operator will work at the Erlanger, KY Service Center to manufacture large scale, power generation equipment along with their subassemblies by following blueprints and specific work instructions.

Essential Responsibilities:As the CNC Machine Operator - Horizontal Turning you will:

  • Focus on working in a shop environment safely and willing to report potential hazards

  • Set-up and operate CNC Machine Tools (Turning/Drilling)

  • Read CNC programs, familiar with G-Codes (preparatory codes) & M codes (miscellaneous codes)

  • Make minor edits to CNC programs

  • Read and interpret Engineered Blue Print drawings

  • Understand and apply geometric tolerances

  • Set up and safely use various inspection tools and gages (i.e. I/D & O/D Mics, calipers, bore gages, Tri-mics, thread gages, etc...)

  • Machine to required tolerances of .001” - .005”

  • Determine machining feeds and speeds and tool selections

  • Rig and use overhead cranes

  • Be familiar with and utilize adjustable boring heads

  • Follow all safety rules and wear all PPE as required

  • Work effectively with tea to ensure successful delivery to customer


  • High school Diploma or GED

  • Minimum 5 years CNC Machining experience


  • Ability and willingness to work 2nd shift and all overtime as scheduled

  • Ability and willingness to lift 50 pounds

Desired Characteristics:

  • Ability to follow all safety rules and wear all PPE as required

  • Ability to calculate figures, basic math and understanding of measuring and metrics

  • Proven ability to use shop math, including trigonometry and geometry

  • Ability and willingness to work multiple shift(s)

  • Ability and willingness to work overtime, various shifts, holidays and weekends, as required

  • Ability to follow work rules, carry out instructions either written, oral, or diagram form

  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations

  • Ability to work well with others

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively

  • Desire to take ownership and accountability in work and in company success

  • Ability to work in a lean and fast-paced environment

  • Experience with Horizontal Turning

  • Prior experience turning shafts
