General Electric Senior Global Commodity Leader - Metallics in Denver, Colorado

Role Summary:

Identify and drive proactive strategies for Metallic Sourcing team with a clear focus on sourcing metrics that runs from cost savings, payment term improvements, supplier relationship management, dual source development, low cost country spend migration, on-time-delivery and quality improvement, cross functional project management, service productivity and life cycle cost improvements. You will use your experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others

Essential Responsibilities:

Commodity Management:

  • Develop and execute long term, global strategies for commodities spread across a global supply base. Metrics include but not limited to cost savings, total landed cost assessment, make vs. buy comparisons, cycle time reduction, lean, cash flow improvement etc.

  • Create short and long term commodity strategy, follow seven steps strategic sourcing process, lead/influence cross functional team members (Engineering, quality, field/service, manufacturing, program management, sales), overall supplier management with the technology partners or team members and in accordance with the business strategy

  • Manage the standard tollgate processes on the commodity such as forecasting, standard setting, growth playbook creation, Session 2 & Internal Operation Plan. New Program Strategic Management:

  • Lead the team effort of development and execution of strategy on new programs that will cover identifying, onboarding, developing, suppliers and helping business achieve localization of production as well as service needs.

  • Work with fulfillment/material team, supplier quality team and other stakeholder to continuously improve on-time delivery and quality

  • Drive strategic/9-step sourcing activities on this supply base and get it ready to serve global needs. Contract Management:

  • Drive strategic relationships with the suppliers and utilize fact based negotiation tactics to secure spend under contract and also achieve the stated business goals. Project Management:

  • For commodity; act as the focal point with the New Product Introduction, Engineering, Product Management, Materials and Quality Team and work towards achieving common business goals.

  • Identify/establish strong constructive relationship with key power brokers such as engineering to be able to execute the sourcing projects successfully.

  • Setup and lead weekly project review meetings with the cross functional. Be very systematic and utilize existing project management tools or improve as needed in order to track and execute various sourcing projects. Dual Source Development:

  • Identify, plan & execute the dual source initiatives on sub commodities in this spend.

  • Drive cross functional effort, be persuasive, and ensure timely completion of the projects. Low Cost Country Spend Migration:

  • Lead the spend migration to Low Cost countries and drive pole teams to achieve faster project execution. Review validation plan with the technical team and improve its timing without jeopardizing the business.

  • Work with the suppliers to develop ramp up, capacity plans. Ensure maintenance of safety stocks and smooth cut in of projects. Service Productivity Projects:

  • Help Service team in identifying opportunities to create productivity projects and lead the sourcing portion to ensure completion. Financial Management:

  • Lead commodity’s weekly financials to measure deflation, inflation, special payments and track the progress towards the annual team goal.

  • Report these numbers with the Sourcing Initiatives team and ensure weekly closures on finances. Process & Budget Management:

  • Set up tools to drive smoother processes for the commodity.

  • Set up and conduct weekly, monthly rhythms with cross functional teams & suppliers. Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college.

  • Minimum of 5 additional years of experience in Commodity Management.

  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 30% of the time Desired Characteristics:

  • Mechanical engineering or material engineering background

  • Working experience on gear or forging product

  • Ability to work in a team as well as independently

  • Six Sigma training is preferred (GE employees only)
