Roles and Responsibilities:

Role Summary / Purpose

This position is for the Manufacturing Engineering Technician role within Dayton Cores & Castings cores engineering team. This role will be responsible for providing engineering and shop support through material testing, process monitoring, and machine set-up activities. You will work closely with both engineering and production leaders to drive operational and quality improvements.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Track and manage raw material inventory levels, and collaborate with operations/engineering teams for future orders

  • Coordinate and execute material testing – including collecting test samples and completing the tests on various kinds of equipment

  • Organize and support analysis of material testing results by pulling data from test machine/report, updating internal reporting tools, and reviewing with engineering team

  • Process test pieces/articles through manufacturing process, including completion of dimensional/visual inspection for key characteristics

  • Support manufacturing equipment performance by tear down and clean up prior to maintenance activity as well as machine set-up & testing after maintenance

  • Lead and support manufacturing engineering and lean projects related to process control improvement, cost reduction, and operational efficiency gains

  • Document and standardize critical manufacturing best practices in your area of responsibility

  • Work closely with business leadership across functions to support overall operational and quality performance improvement initiatives

Qualifications / Requirements

  • High School Diploma / GED

  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in manufacturing positions (may include, but not limited to Production, Inspection, Engineering, Machine/Tool Building)

Desired Characteristics

  • Excellent personal computer skills including high competency Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • Experience in using software to visualize and analyze data (e.g. Minitab, Excel, VBA)

  • Experience in Oracle, MAPICs, or some type of ERP System

  • Ability to create personal standard work and execute set daily/weekly schedule of activities so that all work is complete on schedule

  • Ability to set realistic yet challenging project and operational goals with methods to manage project execution and goal achievement

  • Familiar with Lean Manufacturing concepts, behaviors, and tools

  • Strong verbal and written communication/presentation skills, including ability to document data and standards

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate in cross-functional team – including being flexible, adapting to change, and welcoming other perspectives

  • Self-motivated with ability to identify problems/opportunities and work independently and within the team to drive solutions

  • Strong continuous improvement mindset – always seeking to improve processes, technologies, self, and others

  • Ability to prioritize and manage time supporting multiple projects simultaneously
