Job Description Summary
Are you looking for an engineering role with a focus on technical achievement and detailed
GE Aviation has an opening for a machine design engineer to work on high powered rotating
equipment utilizing leading edge design and analysis tools, all the way from concept through
testing and into production.
You will be working alongside “best in class” design and test engineering talent
Qualified candidates are needed to round out our team with additional confident, technically
focused engineers to help with a number of new projects.
In particular, as the Engine Starting Products Design Engineer, you will:
Participate in the design, analysis, and test assignments using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures while fulfilling task requirements
Be involved in design, analysis, and testing of the power transmission and machine elements and packaging of high speed, power dense rotating equipment, gearboxes, electric drives and hydraulic systems
Design and optimize dynamic load path models of bearing supported rotating machines containing turbine and gearbox elements
Calculate and justify mechanical machine element and associated packaged fits and gaps, and generate axial and radial tolerance stack ups acceptable for use in equipment that experiences high loads from vibration and high rate of rotation at high and low temperature extremes
Create technical justification and procedural documentation to support engineering decision making and to facilitate completion of analyses and testing
Create personal, detailed work plans from higher level program requirements
Monitor progress and provide % complete and effort level to complete feedback
Utilize 3-D (CAD) to support the creation of innovative design solutions and assist creation of supporting design documentation
Create, dimension, and check assembly and component drawings for quality of presentation and accuracy to requirements and existing standards
Work on one or multiple new product introduction (NPI) projects from proposal to final production
Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments
Participate on teams assigned to address product related or organizational initiatives and generic issues
Participate as a presenter in technical and program reviews
Support current product use through evaluation of customer requirements/feedback and data mining of returned or failed customer equipment
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Design, or Physics from an accredited college or university OR High School Diploma / GED with a minimum 5 years of experience in a design engineering position
Minimum 2 additional years of experience in an Engineering position
Advanced degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university
Prior rotating equipment design experience, especially gearboxes
Proficiency in performing technical research and ability to critically analyze one’s findings and those of others
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong customer service mindset with ability to adapt to change
Proficiency with engineering tools such as PowerPoint, Excel, MATLAB, commercial FEA and CFD, Unigraphics, etc.
GD&T knowledge as applied to mechanical components of machined or cast construction.
