General Electric Lead Mechanical Systems Design Engineer in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania

Job Description Summary

Review customer mechanical design requirements and translate them into GE design documentation for manufacturing and/or purchase technical specifications for vendors. Oversee creation of mechanical models or perform engineering calculations to ensure designs meet customer requirements. Work in a multi-disciplinary team to satisfy requirements for our Naval, marine, and industrial customers.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Develop, review, or oversee the creation of specifications, models, drawings, bills of materials and test procedures.

  • Work with engineers in other international GE units to collaborate on power conversion equipment design modifications.

  • Undertake modelling, analysis and simulation of mechanical systems and equipment, using standard design tools such as: Matlab, Mathcad, ANSYS, etc.

  • Ownership of Bill of Materials and localization efforts for power conversion products on US Navy contracts

  • Ability to travel to customer sites supporting customer reviews and assisting site teams with maintenance and troubleshooting issues.

  • Lead factory acceptance testing of power conversion equipment.

  • Provide technical assistance to sales and marketing teams on new opportunities.

  • Ensure engineering commitment dates are achieved and work with management in identifying and resolving issues.

  • Lead design reviews to ensure designs meet customer, regulatory and internal GE quality requirements.

  • Comply with all company and customer health and safety regulations

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in mechanical engineering, marine engineering, or equivalent

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in mechanical design

Eligibility Requirements

  • Ability to obtain US Government secret security clearance

  • Willing to travel internationally to support projects and business.

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience in rotating machinery or shaft design for industrial / marine systems.

  • Familiarity with MIL-Specs, ABS, DNV, Lloyd’s Register, USCG CFRs or IEC.

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaborate with leadership to deliver results with set deadlines

  • Experience with marine electrical power and propulsion systems.

  • Experience in design and application of mechanical components on rotating equipment.

  • Experience in design of cooling systems for power electronics

  • Experience in design for shock rated equipment

  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers that are not engineers

  • Masters in Mechanical or Marine Engineering

  • Professional Engineer License
