General Electric Field Service Engineer in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania

Role Summary:

The Field Service Engineer will support the Senior Systems Engineering team in support of the Government Service business platform. In this role, you will spend time training at our Cranberry Township, PA office and support on-board work at our customer project site in Seattle, WA.

Essential Responsibilities:

As the Field Service Engineer, you will:

  • Provide engineering assistance for a specialized area of a project / all phases of a project from initial development through marine / offshore commissioning, including assisting / observing software development; designing / coding components and modules according to detailed specifications and direction; analysis / development of test plans; assisting in hardware development / design; developing / writing functional specifications; researching and compiling technical information; and developing drawings and schematics

  • Perform assignments to support field engineering, including visits to installation / commissioning sites and engineering assignments

  • Assist in hardware installation and the safe / controlled energization and testing of equipment and systems

  • Assist in the safe / controlled testing of software functionality by following test plans and procedures, and collating and compiling test documentation

  • Configure / manage drawings, schematics and software code with GE team using best practices


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Technology or related field from an accredited university or college (OR High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of IT, engineering, scientific or related technical experience)


  • Ability and willingness to travel 60% of the time

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience with systems installation, configuration and administration of Windows based systems, networking switches

  • Understanding of Windows Forms, Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF)

  • Solid understanding of Object Orientated design patterns and principles

  • Industry knowledge of network product, security, and technology trends

  • Detailed understanding of .Net fundamentals

  • Ability to conceptualize and implement performance objectives that meet established requirements

  • Prioritize workload / shift work activities in order to meet business needs and department goals

  • Ability to make recommendations regarding job methods and departmental procedures

  • Demonstrates a high degree of personal and professional ethics / integrity

  • Ability to interact and communicate with internal and external customers

  • Strong PC skills, including use of standard MS Office applications

  • Ability to write professional and technical reports / procedures

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills

  • Ability to multi-task on a consistent basis

  • Works independently and self-motivates

  • Ability to able to meet tight deadlines

  • Experience with C# or JavaScript

  • Desire to learn new skills quickly
