Role Summary:

The Senior Counsel - Commercial will provide counseling and strategic legal advice to the Avionics Division and to the Systems Sourcing organization. In the role of Senior Counsel - Commercial, you will demonstrate accountability for legal, business and broad company objectives, manage complex issues within area of expertise, and contribute to the overall business strategy.

Essential Responsibilities:

Additionally, the Senior Counsel - Commercial will:

  • Provide ongoing legal advice and support related to contracting activities, including the drafting, review, negotiation and interpretation of commercial standard and nonstandard contracts and proposals

  • Provide legal advice on multi-functional teams executing GE's commercial agreements and key initiatives for commercial programs, sales, sourcing, and joint ventures

  • Assist both lawyers and non-lawyers on legal and business issues

  • Use customer-focused thinking to develop processes to reduce cycle time, including development of standard forms and web-based tools

  • Provide day-to-day legal advice and counseling and coordinate with legal team and business functional experts (e.g. regulatory, product safety, litigation, ITC, compliance) as required Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school

  • Member in good standing with the State Bar

  • Minimum of 5 years of legal experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in domestic and international contract drafting and negotiations (including experience and familiarity with the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) and U.N. Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods) Desired Characteristics:

  • Established analytical ability and superior communication and advocacy skills, with an aptitude for practical negotiation and ability to think clearly and communicate succinctly

  • Familiarity with Accounting / Finance

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including ability to push others to deliver on commitments and work with cross-functional teams

  • Proven ability to develop process-driven solutions to recurring issues

  • Ability to handle multiple inquiries and assignments in a time pressured environment, and composure to satisfy multiple, and sometimes competing objectives

  • Creativity, vision, and sound judgment in developing and implementing legal solutions

  • Strong commitment to integrity and professionalism, and a passion for excellence

  • Superior academic record and training
