General Electric Lead Engineer - Electrical Component in Clearwater, Florida

Job Description Summary

The Lead Design Engineer reports to the Senior Engineering Manager and is responsible for the production design of instrument transformers as well as test related activities. Activities contributing to the design and development of products, solutions and systems. Includes activities linked to technical improvement of existing products and components Impacts departmental operations and responsible for planning/execution. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Integrate EHS requirements in engineering process and deploy HAZID (Hazard identification) sessions at different project phases

  • Design voltage potential and current transformers up to 69kV

  • Ensure standards compliance to IEEE, IEC and other applicable standards

  • Produce verification reports as required

  • Direct qualification testing for new products

  • Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures

  • Focus on increasing contribution margin within core business and maintaining growth.

  • Identifying applicable new technologies, vendors, fabricators, and subcontractors

  • Provide assistance as needed for customer returns/failure analysis

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Science (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 5 years of experience in the electrical engineering within the Power industry)

  • Minimum of 3 years electrical engineering in the power industry

Desired Characteristics:

  • Familiar with regulatory bodies and approval systems (UL, CSA, IEEE etc)

  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills are a must

  • Excellent communication and listening skills

  • Ability to build relationships within the company and with customers and suppliers

  • Strong sense of ownership

  • Familiar with transformer design, min. 3 years experience
