General Electric Advanced Lead Avionics Product Engineer in Clearwater, Florida

Job Description Summary

The Advanced Lead Avionics Product Engineer role is a pivotal support role to help the manufacturing team meet their First Time Yield, On Time Delivery (OTD) and cost targets for all of GE Aviation’s Avionics North America products. In addition, the Product Engineering team's mission is to create and sustain world class avionics manufacturing by focusing on key areas of cost, delivery and quality.

The Advanced Lead Avionics Product Engineer will support hands-on debug of electronics product and test equipment, lead root cause investigations, identify and deliver corrective actions, and execute product or test equipment updates for obsolescence or cost out activities. This also includes facilitating and supporting manufacturing improvement activities such as: product lean events, developing debug and guided troubleshooting tools, and developing and utilizing data analytics to identify and drive improvements. On new product developments, the Advanced Lead Avionics Product Engineer is responsible for ensuring lessons learned are fed back to the design team, coordinating Design for Test and Manufacturing activities and preparing the product for transition to manufacturing.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support to manufacturing including hands-on debug of electronic product (unit and circuit card) and automated test systems.

  • Execute and lead product and test equipment design changes for obsolescence management, product improvement and cost-out activities.

  • Perform and coordinate engineering investigations and responses for Root Cause and Corrective Action investigations including development of Change Impact Assessments with internal stakeholders.

  • Participate and facilitate improvement projects (e.g. process mapping, yield/delivery problem solving teams, develop debug tools, develop guided troubleshooting aids, etc.).

  • Collaborate and coordinate with internal stakeholders including manufacturing, quality and other engineering teams to solve issues.

  • Present changes, engineering investigations, etc. to external customers.

  • On new product developments, review and guide electronic product architecture and test strategy to optimize Design for Manufacture/Design for Test features.

  • Provide manufacturing lessons learned feedback into the design process.

  • Coordinate avionics product preparation and transition to manufacturing.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related engineering degree from an accredited university or college.

  • Minimum of 6 years professional experience in engineering.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience in the Aerospace/Avionics industry.

  • Experience with complex electronics design, test and/or manufacture.

  • Application of problem solving and root cause corrective action tools and process.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to document, plan, and execute programs.

  • Ability to manage own time to meet task schedule, cost and quality objectives.
