General Electric Sr Staff Data Engineer in Cincinnati, Ohio
Role Summary:As part of GE Aviation supporting Engine Test Systems will be responsible for supporting the continued implementation and growth of our Aviation Test Data (ATD) and Aviation Test Analytics (ATA) big-data products. These products utilize a Cassandra database backend and in this role will be responsible for maintaining the health of these databases and support any new implementations, product upgrades, and enhancements.
In this role, you will:
Be the lead Database Administrator (DBA) for multiple Cassandra environments.
Lead the implementation of the ATD product in the military classified area
Manage contract resources on the L2/L3 support teams.
Provide proactive planning of changes.
Review database schema designs and query optimizations.
Manage risk and dependencies between organizations.
Provide strategic inputs into S2 and other business activities.
Provide coaching, feedback, developmental opportunities, etc. to indirect reports within a team of teams.
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)
Minimum of 8 years of professional experience

Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government SECRET security clearance
Must be willing to work out of an office located in Cincinnati, Ohio
8+ years of IT and Data management experience (Non-Data Warehouse and Hadoop experience)
2+ years in Architecting, Designing and Operations on Cassandra Database
Hands on experience in Apache Spark with Cassandra and managing multi Cassandra datacenters, with Analytics and OpsCenter
Ability to design data partitioning and keys for read and write efficiency
Must have implementation experience in handling high growth data stores
Exposure to data migration across Cassandra data centers and outside Cassandra
Exposure to one or more NoSQL databases such as Cassandra, AWS DynamoDB is a plus
Good knowledge of cloud implementations (AWS, Azure)
Exposure to automation tools (Jenkins, Terraform, etc.)
Experience and expertise of the Agile methodologies (e.g., Scrum, Kanban, SaFe, etc.)
Proficiency with various agile and collaboration tools like Rally, Aha, and Confluence
Ability to plan and provide structure and organization in a fast paced, changing environment
Effectively manages risk and uncertainty for self and team
Ability to decompose problems and make decisions when problems or solutions are not 100% defined
Demonstrated experience leading and influencing across a complex, global matrix organization
Proactively identifies and removes project obstacles or barriers on behalf of the team
Uses critical thinking skills and disciplined approaches to help leaders and leadership teams resolve issues and define solutions
Proactively engages with cross-functional teams to resolve issues and design solutions using critical thinking and analytical skills and best practices
