Sr. Manager will drive infrastructure, builds, migrations, and deployment for Aviation Databases both OnPrem and Cloud. Provides significant input into priorities. Guided by professional practices and policies that are shaped by the role. Impacts quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of own team. The role has moderate autonomy, requiring high levels of operational judgment.

Job Description

Responsible for managing team of architects, database administrators and ops leads for designing and architecting scalable and secure cloud database services and solutions, building automation and drive engagement with multiple production environments. She/he will work independently and contribute to the immediate team and to other teams across business.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Identify the scope of the work, provide initial estimate and justify the estimate with facts

  • Lead the research and evaluation of emerging technology, industry and market trends to assist in project development and/or operational support actives.

  • Strong believer in driving culture of collaboration and inclusion, advocate team building and collective outcomes.

  • Engage in design and architecture discussions; participate in design and architecture and present them to product leaders

  • Impacts efficiency and effectiveness of the team and has significant input into priorities.

  • Accomplishing business objectives and deliverables by effectively managing the team, taking part in planning and prioritizing features/deliverables.

  • Hire, onboard, train, mentor and coach the team and develops growth opportunities for them.

  • Demonstrate the ability to make informed cloud services choices after due diligence and impact assessment

  • Participate in the Enterprise Architecture domain and data governance model.

  • Manage database product line / major project or large portfolio.

  • Responsible for transparent delivery and maximizing returns.

  • Foster a lean, problem-solving culture that leverages data and visual management to drive continuous improvement and quantify outcomes.

  • Promote and measure adoption of user-facing digital products by ensuring they are incorporated into applicable Standard Work.

  • Ensure high levels of performance and available across all products and lead communication/problem-solving when issues arise.

  • Leverages deep process/domain expertise to lead technical development teams. Manages, develops, and grows a small to medium team of senior professionals as well as others

  • Drives the development of products and responsible for the product management and engineering / technical execution of the strategy in the space.

  • Strong blend of technical expertise, product management and execution capabilities required.

  • Develop peer, cross-functional and cross-business relationships to maximize best practice sharing and team effectiveness

  • Takes new perspective on existing solutions. Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions

  • Contributes towards strategy and policy development and ensure delivery within area of responsibility.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited university or college with minimum of 6 years of professional experience OR Associates degree with minimum of 9 years of professional experience OR High School Diploma with minimum of 11 years of professional experience

  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in Enterprise Architecture or IT

  • Note: Military experience is equivalent to professional experience

Desired Qualifications

  • 3+ years of managerial and operational experience supporting production Onprem and cloud databases

Desired Characteristics

Technical Expertise:

  • Deep understanding of different type of databases and cloud database technologies

  • Understanding of database security, auditing, and governance

  • Understanding of ITIL and Operational stability

  • Understanding of Unix/Linux/CentOS/RedHat operating systems

  • Understanding of networking protocols like HTTPS, TCP, VPN, DNS, Subnets, Route tables, Firewalls, Load Balancers etc.

  • Nice to have Scurm/PMI certification

  • Experience with configuration management tools like Ansible/Puppet/Chef

  • Experience providing 24X7 operations on-call support on rotational basis.

  • Understanding of containerization technologies- Docker/Kubernetes/Mesos/Rancher

  • Experience in managing and supporting large scale production database environments in public cloud (AWS/Azure/GCP)

  • Experience with Monitoring & Alerting tools: Splunk, Sensu, Prometheus, Zabbix, Graphite, Grafana

  • Expert in breaking down problems and estimate time for development tasks

  • Evangelizes how our technology solves customer problems from a technology and business perspective
