Job Description Summary
The Staff Data Scientist will work in teams addressing statistical, machine learning and data understanding problems in a commercial technology and consultancy development environment. In this role, you will contribute to the development and deployment of modern machine learning, operational research, semantic analysis, and statistical methods for finding structure in large data sets.
As a Staff Data Scientist, you will be part of a data science or cross-disciplinary team on commercially-facing development projects, typically involving large, complex data sets. These teams typically include statisticians, computer scientists, software developers, engineers, product managers, and end users, working in concert with partners in GE business units. Potential application areas include remote monitoring and diagnostics across infrastructure and industrial sectors, risk assessment, and operations optimization.
In this role, you will:
Manage and execute entire projects or components of data science projects from start to finish including data gathering and manipulation, synthesis and modeling, problem solving, and communication of insights and recommendations.
Work with customers to capture data, analytics requirements, synthesize and present findings and insights.
Develop, verify, and validate analytics to address customer needs and opportunities.
Work alongside Software Developers, Software Engineers, Product Managers, Analytics Engineers to translate business requirements and algorithms into commercially viable products.
Work in technical teams for development, deployment, and application of applied analytics, predictive analytics, and prescriptive analytics.
Perform exploratory and targeted data analysis, design data simulations, using descriptive statistics and other methods.
Work with data engineers on data quality assessment, data cleansing and data analytics
Generate reports, annotated code, and other projects artifacts to document, archive, and communicate your work and outcomes.
Communicate methods, findings, and hypotheses with stakeholders.
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) with minimum years of experience 6 years, master’s degree in STEM fields is preferred.

Demonstrated skills/experience in One or more data scripting languages (ex: Python, R etc.) or statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R, SAS, or Matlab)
Demonstrated skills/experience in Experiment design involving algorithm development, machine learning, data mining, and use of other statistical approaches
Demonstrated skills/experience in using Cloud environments and technologies (Azure/AWS) ex: Redshift, Sagemaker, Athena, S3, EC2, QuickSight, Azure Data Factory, Azure Machine Learning, Azure Cognitive Services, Azure Databricks and Azure Synapse Analytics, etc.
Domain knowledge in one or more industry sectors where GE operates (ex: O&G, Power, Mining, Manufacturing, Grid, etc.) is a plus
Demonstrates the initiative to explore alternate technology and approaches to solving problems
Skilled in breaking down problems, documenting problem statements and estimating efforts
Demonstrates awareness about competitors and industry trends
Has the ability to analyze impact of technology choices
