Job Description Summary

We are seeking a Senior Lead Systems Engineer who will provide technical leadership to GE Healthcare Digital's advanced visualization engineering team, enabling us to deliver on innovation, engineering excellence, and quality as we meet the transforming demands of our customers, including AI integration and native cloud deployment, while also delivering world class performance and reliability for our end users and helping our providers to better care for our patients.

You will work closely with project management, product management, architects, software engineers and clinical representatives to execute on the vision and roadmap targeted for a solution, and to ensure delivery of the specific features and specifications targeted for a given release. You will be responsible for the technical content, performance, quality, and release documentation deliverables by collaborating with the development, test teams, QA, RA teams and ensuring alignment to program goals tied to functionality, quality, reliability, serviceability, compliance, and cost.

Job Description Roles and Responsibilities

The Senior Lead Systems Engineer provides leadership to represent engineering team for the program and is responsible for engineering deliverables both directly and through oversight and influence across the broader team, working with the respective functional leads.

The following are the primary deliverables and areas of responsibility:

  • Provide technical direction at the system solution level to the team, in collaboration with feature owners, product owners, and architects, meeting product and systems requirements per project scope.

  • Ensure program release documentation delivery in a timely manner per project schedule working with QA, RA, and respective technical experts in the team including but not limited to system design specifications, risk analysis, FMEA, integration, and flow down of requirements to test specifications.

  • Interfaces between components, services, and third-party software within and outside the business boundaries as necessary per product definition

  • Component and product integration for maximum performance and reliability

  • Product quality goals and design deliverables

  • Supporting regulatory audits – formal and mock audits in terms of technical information and release documentation trail from concept to completion of product/solution.

The Senior Lead Systems Engineer works cross-functionally to support the broader organization in delivering to shared vision and goals and, as such, will play a central role in engineering activities including, but not limited to:

  • Participating in scrum and engineering activities such as release planning, concept and technical design reviews, and sprint reviews

  • Ensuring cross-system dependencies and system integration activities are addressed in the program plan

  • Supporting engineering teams through design decisions to improve quality, performance, and reliability

  • Ensuring quality targets are satisfied and technical risks are retired

  • Implementing and teaching engineering standards

  • Coaching and mentoring team members

  • Informing decision making process by leveraging expertise in technical, quality and regulatory areas

  • Represent engineering team to broader cross-functions to provide product technical details as necessary as well as documentation clarity per Quality Management System and Software Development standard practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)

  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering and technical leadership role

Desired Characteristics

  • Prior software development experience in Java, Web services, HTML5, Cloud applications and/or enterprise system design experience

  • Prior experience or working knowledge of healthcare IT standards and protocols such as DICOM, IHE HL7, FHIR, SMART on FHIR apps, etc.

  • Expertise in synthesizing user and system requirements and working with software developers and architects

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders to meet overall business goals

  • Ability to make technical recommendations and influence technical decisions

  • Effective and assertive communication skills, boundaryless behavior, and strong interpersonal skills

  • High degree of accountability to program deliverables, including quality, reliability, performance, and timely execution

  • Clear thinker and ability to work with limited information and ambiguous problem definitions

  • Working with global teams within a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environment

  • Healthcare or medical device experience is an asset, including knowledge of medical device regulations (i.e. 21 CFR 820, ISO 13485, ISO 14791, IEC 62304)
