Roles and Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

• Be responsible for defining, developing, and evolving software in a fast paced and agile development environment using the latest software development technologies and infrastructure

• Provide technical leadership to an agile team of 5-7

• Work with Product Line Leaders (PLLs) to understand product requirements & vision

• Translate requirements / vision into prioritized list of user stories and deliver to required timelines and quality standards

• Work with product line leaders and architects to develop multi generation software technology plans

• Drive increased efficiency across the teams, eliminating duplication, leveraging product and technology reuse

• Support process improvements which guide the development, sustaining & support activities

• Work cross functionally with other business departments to align activities and deliverables

• Drive world-class quality in the development and support of products

• Ensure team receives consistent messages and has clear understanding of business direction, strategy and results

• Engage subject matter experts in successful transfer of complex domain knowledge

• Apply principles of SDLC and methodologies like Lean/Agile/XP, CI, Software and Product Security, Scalability, Documentation Practices, refactoring and Testing Techniques

• Write code that meets standards and delivers desired functionality using the technology selected for the project

• Understand performance parameters and assess application performance

• Work on core data structures and algorithms and implement them using technology chosen

• Proactively share information across the team, to the right audience with the appropriate level of detail and timeliness


• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)

• A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in developing software for complex systems OR Master’s degree in Computer Science or in “STEM” Majors with 3 years of experience developing software for complex systems

• Experience in software platform, advanced applications (web), user-interface design using modern technologies such as JavaScript/HTML5 and systems engineering

• Strong knowledge of Object-Oriented Analysis and Design, Software Design Patterns and Enterprise Java coding principles or of a similar enterprise Object-Oriented language (Minimum 3 years)

• Hands-on experience in server technologies, such as web services or microservices, building APIs, server-side frameworks, and relational database

• Experience with any modern tooling for software development, such as code development environments (IDEs) and automated test tools (unit tests)

• Experience with Scrum/Agile development Methodologies, including TDD or BDD (Minimum 3 years)

• Ability to analyze impact of technology choices (Minimum 1 year)

• Ability to take ownership of small and medium sized tasks and deliver

• Legal authorization to work in the United States is required.

• Must be willing to work out of an office located in Chicago, IL.

Desired Characteristics

Technical Expertise:

• Experience with front-end technologies (JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML5, CSS, Angular, React, JS libraries)

• Experience in server technologies, such as web services or microservices, server-side frameworks (Spring, REST), containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes), cloud technologies • Experience with databases (MS SQL, PostgreSQL, or similar) and database technologies (JPA, Hibernate, JDBC, Spring Data) • Experience with rules engines and messaging services (Camel, AMQP) & modern tooling (Gradle, Maven, Git, SVN)

• Knowledge of medical standards and communication protocols (DICOM, HL7/FHIR, IHE profiles) and quality management systems

• Awareness of methods and practices such as Lean/Agile/XP, etc. • Prior work experience in an agile environment, or introductory training on Lean/Agile. Aware of and able to apply continuous integration (CI). • General understanding of the impacts of technology choice to the software development life cycle.
