General Electric Senior Lead Systems Engineer in Chicago, Illinois

Job Description Summary

As a Senior Lead Systems Engineer, you will join GE Healthcare’s Enterprise Imaging team and provide the technical leadership that enables innovation, engineering excellence, and quality as we meet the transforming demands of our customers, including AI integration and native cloud deployment, while delivering the performance and reliability that our users demand and ensuring precision health for our patients.

You will work with product management, architects, and clinical representatives to establish the vision and roadmap for the solution, and determine the features and specifications for a given release. You will oversee the technical content, performance, and quality deliverables by collaborating with the development and test teams and ensuring alignment to program goals tied to functionality, quality, reliability, serviceability, compliance, and cost.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

The Senior Lead Systems Engineer represents the central voice and direction for the program, and is responsible for the program’s engineering deliverables both directly and through oversight of the broader team, working with functional leads. The following are the primary deliverables and responsibilities:

  • Product and systems requirements, specifications, risk analysis, integration, and flow down

  • Interfaces between components and execution organizations

  • Component and product integration for maximum performance and operability

  • Technology selection and direction

  • Quality goals and deliverables

  • Product configuration and configuration control

The Senior Lead Systems Engineer works with the broader organization in delivering to shared vision and goals and, as such, will play a central role in several engineering activities including:

  • Participate in scrum and engineering activities such as release planning, concept and technical design reviews, and sprint reviews

  • Ensure cross-system dependencies and system integration activities are addressed in the program plan

  • Support engineering teams through design decisions to improve quality, performance, and reliability

  • Ensure quality targets are satisfied and technical risks are retired

  • Contribute to the strategy and policy development

  • Inform decision-making process by applying understanding of industry trends

  • Explain difficult or sensitive information and promote agreement

  • Implement and teach engineering standards

  • Coach system engineers and engineering team members

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)

  • 5+ years of experience in engineering technical leadership or management role

Desired Characteristics

  • Expertise defining and managing user and system requirements

  • Experience making technical recommendations and decisions

  • Experience working with global teams within a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environment

  • Effective communication skills, boundaryless behavior, and strong interpersonal skills

  • High degree of accountability to program deliverables, including quality, reliability, performance, and cost

  • Clear thinker and ability to work with limited information and ambiguous problem definitions

  • Healthcare or medical device experience is an asset, including knowledge of medical device regulations (i.e. 21 CFR 820, ISO 13485, ISO 14791, IEC 62304)
