Job Description Summary

As a Systems Engineer in the Avionics Controllers Systems and Software Department, you would be helping manage the nascent requirements and interfaces, creating initial design baselines to feed the software, hardware and test teams. There must be effective management of changes coming from the customer, including supporting project technical leadership. You would be joining a dynamic environment that enables every engineer to reach their potential as the team switches from design definition to design verification and to final delivery. This provides the prospects to broaden your skills by taking active responsibilities on the Verification and Integration phases. The Department actively encourages cross-functional skills and you could use your Systems Engineering knowledge to help de-bug software via systems test results analysis, or perform hands-on testing and so improve your knowledge of test equipment and processes for working safely in high power and complex electronic control environments. Exciting opportunities exist for a Lead Systems Engineer to be part of our new Aviation Systems Controls Engineering - Systems and SW organisation. In this role you will lead and perform systems engineering tasks in a wide variety of complex avionics and power programmes. You will utilise your experience and leadership skills to solve complex systems engineering problems and have the ability to effect short-term and some long-term business goals, spanning multiple products across our global business.

As a Lead Systems Engineer you will be actively Leading teams and supporting various projects, over a range of different products, reporting to a line manager who will work with you for Continuous Professional Development. You will be working also on engineering-wide improvements initiatives, helping us grow our Systems capability to satisfy emerging business opportunities in both the civil and military aviation sector.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Leading of multi-functional teams across a variety of projects both Civil and Military

  • Working with projects to enable successful requirements development strategies and plans, throughout the ‘V’ development Lifecycle

  • Supporting projects in capturing, understanding and documenting customer’s requirements

  • Supporting requirements lifecycle in DOORS including requirements creation, trace, maintenance, tools development, generation of reports and health check assessments

  • Leading requirements improvement activities across the engineering functions

  • Supporting requirements management tools upgrades (DOORS Next Generation), developing related processes and methodologies

  • Supporting requirements management tools upgrades (DOORS Next Generation), developing related processes and methodologies

  • Supporting development of product line requirements related strategies

  • Coaching and training the Team members on current and future Systems capability

  • Creating and maintaining common metrics to track projects status and liaise with EPM and PM over Systems work and completion criteria.

  • Creating model-based architectures and designs using state-of-the-art computer aided engineering tools

Qualifications/Desired Knowledge

  • An appropriate degree or HND in Engineering, Mathematics, Applied Physics, similar subject, or equivalent experience

  • Experience of the systems and SW development lifecycle within aerospace or a similar safety critical industry

  • Experience with DOORS requirements management tool and DOORS Extension Language (DXL) scripting

  • Experience with Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) and Rational Team Concert (RTC)

  • An understanding of embedded software and / or hardware engineering

  • Excellent leadership and communication skills

  • Knowledge of ARP4754 and how to actively deploy that knowledge onto multiple projects

  • Understanding of the relationship between Systems and the Aviation HW/SW standards in DO-178 / DO254

  • Ability to Coach/Mentor junior members of your Team
